Original one-way transmitting analog meters lasted on average 40 years and were not susceptible to cyber attacks or any of the other problems associated with wireless utility Smart Meters – including frequent replacement, fires, explosions, and more.

Utilities have little incentive to stop installing these meters because customers usually end up paying for them through rate increases.  The meters also allow them to collect customer data to analyze and sell to 3^rd parties who then then try to sell additional products to customers.  Argh.

So tech companies are creating software to reduce the odds of cyber attacks even though they will admit they can’t guarantee complete protection.

From Engineering and Technology:

The new meters are useful for utility firms as they provide an easy way to track the energy usage of individual customers without needing to rely on self-reporting.

But they can also be compromised by hackers with thousands of videos online showing how to tamper with the devices, a potentially dangerous and illegal practice.

The UBC team has developed an automated program aimed at improving the security of these devices and boosting security in the smart grid.

“Our program uses two detection methods for these types of attacks. First, we created a virtual model of the smart meter and represented how attacks can be carried out against it. This is what we call design-level analysis. Second, we performed code-level analysis. That means probing the smart meter’s code for vulnerabilities, launching a variety of attacks on these vulnerabilities,” said Cybersecurity researcher Karthik Pattabiraman.

The method addresses smart meters’ vulnerability to what the researchers call software-interference attacks, in which the attacker physically accesses the meter and modifies its communication interfaces or reboots it. As a result, the meter is unable to send data to the grid, or it keeps sending data when it shouldn’t, or performs other actions it wouldn’t normally do.

[…]Hacked meters can even cause house fires and explosions or even a widespread blackout. Unlike remote servers, smart meters can be relatively easily accessed by attackers, so each smart meter must be quite hackproof and resilient in the field.

He adds that as with all security techniques, there is no such thing as 100 per cent protection…

Everybody and their grandma probably know by now that Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) are in deep doo-doo for the widespread destructive and deadly California wildfires. But many still may not know that PG&E customers and their insurance companies have been filing lawsuits against the utility company because of their wireless Smart Meters catching fire and/or exploding.

This being the case, one big way to reduce ANY fire risk is for the California Fire Foundation to insist that PG&E immediately replace all the utility’s Smart Meters with original analog meters.

According to an article from Energy Central, this doesn’t seem to be on the agenda right now.  Fingers crossed they decide to do something about this sooner rather than later.

Smart Meter fires and explosions are not isolated to California PG&E customers.  These meters cause all kinds of other problems too – including health issues.  Nobody should be forced to have these dangerous meters on their homes. Communities shouldn’t be forced to accept them from their utility companies.

Wherever there are Smart Meters installed, there are people fighting to get them replaced.

I know I’m not the only one who would like to see solar power work so well that we could forever eliminate our need for fossil fuels.  However, it peeves me to no end when technology is promoted as “clean”, “eco-friendly”, and “beneficial to customers” even though it clearly isn’t (like utility Smart Meters) and when it’s forced on people (like utility Smart Meters).

Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson recently aired a segment called, “Solar Opposites.”  It’s an enormous bummer for those who believe that current solar power technology is the answer to our prayers.  Anyone incensed about toxic technology intentionally created with short lifespans and ending up in landfills may want to grab a pillow to punch:

Some call it the “dirty little secret” of this “clean” energy source: from start to finish, solar panels leave a trail of hazardous waste. An Associated Press investigation found that over five years, 17 of 41 solar panel manufacturers in California produced 46.5 million pounds of sludge and contaminated water. 1.4 million pounds of waste was transported to nine other states.

Sharyl: So this is your house?

Matare: It is, we’ve been here for about 10 years.

Sharyl: And did you try the solar panel thing?

Matare: We sure did.

Adding to the waste issue— Matare says many of today’s solar panels don’t last very long. He showed us where he removed solar panels from his own house after less than three years.

Sharyl: You mean this spot?

Matare: This spot right here, yes. And this has happened not just here, but on a few other houses that I designed, and the owners installed panels that did not last.

Sharyl: Used solar panels are already a global environmental threat, according to the pro-nuclear power group Environmental Progress. It found that solar panels create 300 times more toxic waste per unit of energy than nuclear power plants. Households with solar roofs produce up to 60 percent more electronic waste than non-solar households.

Matare: I think they will find that many of these panels that are installed, they’re going to go straight to landfill, and it will be a groundwater issue. There’ll be an issue with disposing of these materials and ultimately reclaiming them. It’s like the everything from cell phones to computers, it’s nasty, nasty stuff.

Why All Utility Customers Should Be Concerned About Smart Meter Fires.

Many people are aware that Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) is being held responsible for California’s widespread devastating and deadly wildfires.  A recent article reports that documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act reveal that the company knew for years about fire risks and did nothing to prevent them.

The failure last year of a century-old transmission line that sparked a wildfire, killed 85 people and destroyed the town of Paradise wasn’t an aberration, the documents show. A year earlier, PG&E executives conceded to a state lawyer that the company needed to process many projects, all at once, to prevent system failures — a problem they said could be likened to a “pig in the python.”

Many still may not be aware that PG&E customers and their insurance companies have also been filing lawsuits against the company because of their wireless Smart Meters catching fire and/or exploding.

PG&E may not be your utility company but these Smart Meter fires and explosions are happening everywhere. 

In fact, these types of meters are known for all kinds of problems – including health issues.  Nobody should be forced to have these dangerous devices on their homes. Communities shouldn’t be forced to accept them from their utility companies.



Wherever there are Smart Meters installed, there are people fighting to get them replaced with original analog meters because of fire risk and much more.

Activist Post regularly reports about the many issues associated with utility Smart Meters.  This includes fires and explosions, rate increases for installation and frequent replacement, and the additional energy use for 24/7 customer data collection being passed on to customers.

Repeat – unlike original analog meters, Smart Meters allow utility companies to collect, store, and analyze customers’ utility use 24/7.  Some even share (or sell) this data with 3^rd parties.  Creepy, right?  The irony in Illinois is that because of this 24/7 data collection, a study determined that low-income customers are subsidizing higher-income consumers.

From Energy News:

The findings affirm a theory that was almost impossible to test before smart meters became common in Illinois, providing far more granular data on electricity usage than traditional analog meters. Illinois is one of the few states in the country that allows researchers access to smart meter data that’s been stripped of customers’ identifying information.

“One of the reasons that we’re doing this is to show what’s possible when you have access to real data,” said David Kolata, executive director of the Illinois Citizens Utility Board. CUB analysts conducted the study using smart meter data from the summer of 2018 for about 2.5 million Illinois electric customers.

After standardizing the data, which came from ComEd and Ameren — Illinois’ two regulated utilities — the researchers found six groups, or “clusters,” of customers. Each cluster had a distinct pattern of electricity consumption, based on how much electricity they used each day and when that use peaked. The researchers compared those clusters to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2017 American Community Survey. By using geographic identifiers, they were able to determine probable demographic characteristics of each cluster of customers.

Note:  24/7 data collection may have worked in favor of low-income residents in this situation.  However, there are too many reasons to NOT want Smart Meters.



Some environmental groups still support Smart Meters and Grids because of 24/7 data collection even though:

1. Smart Meters and Grids require MORE ENERGY to operate


2. They need to be frequently replaced which creates e-Waste


3. They catch fire and explode and


4. They emit and create Electrosmog which harms people, plants and animals

No – it doesn’t make sense.  Original analog meters lasted on average 40 years and weren’t associated with all of the above mentioned problems and more.

Original utility analog meters lasted on average 40 years.  Not “Smart” Meters and their grids.  They have SO many issues associated with them including data collection errors.  This often lead to customers paying higher bills.  Another example of this was recently reported in Texas.

From the Houston Chronicle:

The manager of the Texas electric grid said Wednesday that it should not be forced to fix a data error that increased electricity costs by millions of dollars and reprice a block of wholesale power sales because generators submit erroneous data so frequently it would have to adjust prices as often as once a day.

(AS OFTEN AS ONCE EVERY DAY!!)

In its filing with the Public Utility Commission, ERCOT said it would be “imprudent” if it was forced to correct prices because on any given day the grid manager receives wrong information or data sent in error on power availability that affects wholesale prices. ERCOT said that it would cause increased price uncertainty and market instability if ERCOT were forced to reprice trades that move through the system.

(IMPRUDENT?)

Ed Hirs, an energy economist at the University of Houston, said ERCOT’s argument was astonishing for a regulator that has spent millions of dollars to build a computerized market model that prices power and measures capacity in 5 to 15 second intervals. ERCOT’s job is to create an orderly and reliable market, Hirs said, but the filing essentially described a built-in flaw that encourages any trickster to take advantage of it.

“This is a multi-billion enterprise that is unable and unwilling to repair mistakes,” he said. “How does it do its job?”

Well Ed, maybe its job is ripping off customers because they seem to be doing a bang-up job of that.

The rise of “Surveillance Capitalism” by businesses and other entities has made it so that we’re all being subjected to data collection by multiple sources almost all of the time whether we’re conscious of it or not.

Some people willingly participate in data collection.  Others don’t like it but believe there is no point doing anything to stop it.  Then there are those who continue to try to reduce their involuntary participation.  One way is by opting-out of dangerous 24/7 data collecting utility Smart Meters.  Another is by wearing clothes that trick privacy violating cameras.  Fabulous!

A new clothing line lets you camouflage yourself as a car to mess with surveillance cameras. The garments in the Adversarial Fashion collection are covered with license plate images that trigger automated license plate readers, or ALPRs, to inject junk data into systems used to monitor and track civilians.

ALPRs — which are typically mounted on street poles, streetlights, highway overpasses and mobile trailers — use networked surveillance cameras and image recognition to track license plate numbers, along with location, date and time.

Hacker and fashion designer Kate Rose showed off her inaugural line at the DefCon cybersecurity conference in Las Vegas over the weekend. It was inspired by a conversation with a friend who works at the Electronic Frontier Foundation about the “low specificity” or inaccuracy of a lot of plate readers on police cars.

The Adversarial Fashion garments, she said, highlight the need to make computer-controlled surveillance less invasive and harder to use without human oversight.

Artist Leo Selvaggio created a 3D-printed rubber mask aimed at foiling surveillance cameras by making everyone look like the same person — him.

Lobbyists have a bad name for good reason.  Activist Post has reported before about telecom and tech companies spending beaucoup bucks to sway elected officials and government employees to force the installation of risky technology – including utility “Smart” Meters and 5G – in communities across the U.S. (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Thanks to Comparitech.com for providing more nauseating details in this recent article, “How much does your ISP spend on lobbying?”

Comparitech researchers compiled and analyzed 51 ISPs’ lobbying expenses from the US Senate’s Lobbying Disclosure Act database, which dates back to 1998.

Here are the highlights of our analysis:

• 2018 was the biggest year yet for ISP lobbying at $80 million.


• Top spenders include AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast, which have amassed lobbying expenses of $341 million, $265 million, and $200 million, respectively since 1998.


• Since 2011, yearly spending on lobbying across all ISPs hasn’t strayed below $72 million.


• The largest amount spent by any provider in any year was AT&T in 1999, at almost $23 million. AT&T’s acquisition of Ameritech Corp accounted for much of this, and the merger eventually led to the creation of America’s largest telecom company.


• Total spend from 2016 to 2019 is set to exceed lobbying expenses between 2012 and 2015, which totaled $295 million.


• Lobbying in favor of mergers and acquisitions accounted for many of the biggest expenses for individual ISPs in a single year.


• $1.2 billion has been spent by ISPs on lobbying since 1998.

Earlier this week the Chicago Tribune released research that had determined various smartphone models exceed federal RF safety limits.  One law firm has already started their own investigation about this.  Fingers crossed that more law firms will take action against similar atrocities helped along with telecom dollars.

If you weren’t already aware, last week the Chicago Tribune reported that some Apple and Samsung smartphones are in violation of federal RadioFrequency (RF) Radiation Safety Limits.  There is now a class action lawsuit because of their findings.  This is great; however, it doesn’t change the fact that RF safety limits and testing were established over 20 years ago so they don’t apply to

1. How today’s devices are made and operate


2. How most people– including children – use cell phone and WiFi radiation emitting devices and


3. How we are exposed to them

Over the years, many doctors and scientists, including Dr. Davis, have asked that the Federal Communications Commission to consider all of this and update RF radiation guidelines, limits, and testing.  They have refused to do so and did again recently in regard to 5G technology which even the telecom industry won’t say is safe.

The FCC needs to update its cellphone tests for radiofrequency radiation by Devra Davis

The Chicago Tribune recently published test results indicating that some cellphones can emit radiation causing exposure up to five times higher than current limits allow. This shocking data comes on the heels of the government of France’s revelations that phones emit radiation between four and 11 times their allowable limits.

For more than a decade, the Federal Communications Commission has knowingly relied on unrealistic test methods to evaluate radiofrequency radiation from a single phone selected for testing by major manufacturers. Repeated submissions and presentations to the FCC have documented numerous deficiencies in the current protocol, as noted in 2012 by the Government Accountability Office in a report mandated by Congress.

The system for testing cellphones constitutes a deceptive, improbable, unrepresentative and far-fetched scenario. As the Tribune documents, phones are placed up to 1 inch away from a phantom body of a heavy-set large man. This scheme fails to take into account the thinner skulls, developing immune systems and more vulnerable eyes of millions of infants, toddlers and young children for whom contact with phones has become commonplace.

FCC regulations for phone testing were first set in 1996 when a gallon of gasoline cost $1.25 and the average cellphone cost a staggering $2,000, which equals roughly $3,200 today after adjusting for inflation. These expensive phones were used chiefly for business, medical and military purposes, with a typical call duration of six minutes.

As the scientific research submitted to the agency shows, the FCC’s 20th-century standards were not set to protect us from known biological impacts of increased, and increasing, 21st-century radiofrequency radiation.

Would the American public agree to fly on airplanes or drive cars that adhered to safety or emissions standards set 20 or 30 years ago, disregarding necessary improvements that could be made? The FCC is proposing adherence to outdated test systems.

In contrast to the FCC’s stale position, the federal government in France has progressed with modern legislation that requires steps be taken to limit children’s exposure, removing Wi-Fi from kindergartens, labeling cellphone radiation and ensuring headsets are available. France has banned cellphone use in elementary and middle schools, including playgrounds. France’s national testing agency decided to radiation test hundreds of cellphones, and in 2015 found 9 out of 10 phones tested next to the body emit more radiation than regulations allowed. Researchers have computed the excesses are up to 11 times U.S. limits. France is systematically recalling and changing test procedures for millions of phones as a result of these findings, which were brought to light by Marc Arazi, a French physician.

It is no accident that the FCC has floated its consequential proposal — to stick with its outdated standards — in the midst of the summer doldrums when Congress and schools are out of session. Congress should demand a full and frank accounting of the FCC’s flawed system.

Research has already determined that people, animals and nature are affected by exposure to all sources of Electromagnetic Radiation aka “Electrosmog”.  This includes cell phone and WiFi radiation which research has determined can disrupt the blood-brain barrier, cause it to leak and kill brain cells.

American Academy of Pediatrics and other health experts have warned that kids are more vulnerable to exposure because they are smaller and their skulls are thinner.  In fact, glioma brain tumors now make up more than 50% of all tumors in children under 14.

RadioFrequency (RF) Radiation Safety Limits for cell phones and other wireless devices were established in 1996.  They don’t apply to current products and how we are exposed to WiFi sources today.  The Chicago Tribune recently released a report about various smartphone models that substantially exceed federal RF safety limits and a class action lawsuit has been filed because of this.  Makes you wonder about how many other common wireless sources are also exceeding federal safety limits as well.

Philadelphia residents can’t seem to get a break.  City leaders have already installed sonic technology to deter crime that has been described as a weapon by one councilwoman.  They have also allowed the installation of 1800+ small cell towers for 5G even though telecom executives have provided NO evidence that this is safe and many researchers say it isn’t (see 1, 2, 3).

Now the city’s Energy Office wants to replace all 100,000 street lights with “Smart” LED streetlights despite warnings from the American Medical Association (AMA) and other health and environmental experts.  This definitely seems worthy of debate.

Lobbying isn’t illegal but most would agree that it has certainly created a lot of problems – mostly at the public’s expense, financially and otherwise (think Opioid Crisis).

Most wouldn’t be surprised to learn that telecoms spend big bucks on lobbying.  Many may not realize that energy companies are heavily targeted by lobbyists too. Unfortunately, most Americans aren’t able to create their own energy, and having safe and affordable access to it can be a matter of life or death.

In the U.S., public utility commissions are supposed to protect the public.  Over the last decade or so, they’ve been aligning themselves more with utility companies and lobbyists instead.  Ohio and Connecticut utility regulators were “wined and dined” by energy lobbyists in 2017.  Now it seems to be Massachusetts’ turn.   From Associated Press:

Companies representing a range of energy interests, from old-school oil and gas to renewables like solar and wind power, are pumping millions into lobbying efforts in Massachusetts.

In 2018, as many as 70 energy businesses and advocacy groups reported spending at least $5.3 million trying to get their messages through to Beacon Hill legislators and policymakers, according to an Associated Press review of public lobbying records. Some of the top spenders were involved in renewable energy.

The spending was much the same in 2017, when a similar number of groups spent about $5.1 million on lobbying.

Dangerous utility “Smart” Meters  (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7), LED streetlights, solar panels and more are forced on residents and communities because unscrupulous energy companies and their sidekicks want to make more money.  It’s just that simple.

It’s bad enough that cell phones have been found to be 10X dirtier than a toilet seat.  Last year Reader’s Digest reported “Warning, Cell Phone Addicts: Your Phone Is Aging Your Skin.” The article focused on exposure to Blue Light or High-Energy Visible Light (HEV) as the culprit but it’s not the only one.

Exposure to Electromagnetic Radiation (aka Electrosmog) can age us, too, and more than just skin deep.  Dr. Magda Havas refers to this as “Rapid Aging Syndrome.”



In fact, research has proven that all sources of cell phone and WiFi radiation disrupt the blood-brain barrier which can cause it to leak.  Imagine what that’s doing to your skin before it gets to your brain – rashes, flushing and other skin yuckiness.  Adding insult to injury – trying to medically cure epidermal debacles may be futile since exposure can cause bacteria to become antibiotic resistant.



Recently the Chicago Tribune reported that 11 smartphone models exceed federal RF safety limits and now there is a class action lawsuit against Samsung and Apple.  In 2018, French scientists determined that 9 out of 10 mobile phones exceeded federal safety limits.  What’s worse – RF safety limits were established in 1996 so they don’t even apply to today’s phones or how we use or are exposed to them and all other wireless sources (see 1, 2).

Activist Post has published some articles about sources of Blue Light causing poor eye health including macular degeneration and blindness.  Research has also determined that 5G exposure affects eyes too – and skin and sweat ducts and more (see 1, 2, 3).  Despite increasing opposition – forced 5G installation is continuing anyway throughout the U.S. and around the world.

Telecoms have been warning shareholders that they may eventually become liable for harm caused by their products and infrastructure.  Insurance companies don’t seem interested in doing business anymore with them either.  Regardless, unless something changes fast, the future doesn’t look pretty for any of us.

How Any RF Exposure (Cell Phones, WiFi, etc.) Can Cause the Same Results

Some call it RadioFrequency (RF) Radiation.  Some call it Microwave Frequency or Microwave Radiation.  Some call it Non-Ionizing Radiation.  Some call it Cell Phone Radiation or Wireless Radiation or WiFi.  No matter what it’s called, decades of research has already determined that exposure to all sources of it is harmful in more ways than increased cancer risk (see 1, 2, 3).

Thanks to CBS “60 Minutes” for reporting about symptoms and injuries suffered by American diplomats, their families, and their pets and how microwave weapons have been suspected if not confirmed.  Unfortunately, any RF exposure can cause symptoms and brain trauma like what they described, so being targeted is not required.  Exposure can cause “Microwave Sickness,” a medically recognized illness that includes a variety of unpleasant and disabling symptoms including what these victims described (see 1, 2, 3).  It can also disrupt the blood-brain barrier which can cause it to leak and even kill brain cells (see 1, 2, 3).  That sounds a lot like brain trauma, doesn’t it?

From CBS “60 Minutes”:

Since 2016, dozens of American officials have come home from Cuba and China with unexplained brain trauma. Evidence shows it may be the work of another government using a weapon that leaves no trace

Catherine Werner: I woke up in the middle of the night. I could feel this sound in my head. Um, it was intense pressure on both of my temples. At the same time, I heard this low humming sound, and it was oscillating. And I remember looking around for where this sound was coming from, because it was painful.

Scott Pelley: When did you first notice that you weren’t feeling well?

Catherine Werner: October of 2017, I started to get hives all over my body. Really bad hives. I woke up with headaches every day. Um, I started to feel tired. The simplest things would just make me very, very tired.

Scott Pelley: Were these symptoms growing worse over time?

Catherine Werner: They were. Yes. My symptoms would get so bad that I would throw up, or I would wake up with nosebleeds.

She says even her dogs were throwing up blood. Werner assumed her illness was connected to China’s toxic smog. She didn’t know it at the time but her symptoms were the same that American officials in Havana had suffered since 2016. The U.S. Embassy there is all but closed as a result.

After reporting her experiences, Werner was medically evacuated to the U.S. for treatment. U.S. agencies are investigating, but Mark Lenzi has a theory.

Mark Lenzi: This was a directed standoff attack against my apartment.

Scott Pelley: It was a weapon?

Mark Lenzi: Oh, of course it was a weapon.

Scott Pelley: An energy weapon–

Mark Lenzi: Absolutely.

Scott Pelley: What sort of energy is this that we’re talking about?

Mark Lenzi:  I believe it’s RF, radio frequency energy, in the microwave range.

A clue that supports that theory was revealed by the National Security Agency in 2014. This NSA statement describes such a weapon as a “high-powered microwave system weapon that may have the ability to weaken, intimidate, or kill an enemy over time without leaving evidence.” The statement goes on to say “…this weapon is designed to bathe a target’s living quarters in microwaves.” The NSA disclosed this in a worker’s compensation case filed by former NSA employee Mike Beck.

Microwave weapons aren’t the only thing that can bathe living quarters in microwaves.  That’s why so many people are opposed to various sources of wireless radiation being installed on their homes (i.e. utility “Smart” Meters), in hospitals (i.e. WiFi routers), and near homes, schools, and anywhere people and animals spend long periods of time (i.e. cell towers and nodes).

Fitbits, smart watches, and other wearable activity trackers.  They have been the subject of class action lawsuits and recalls due to privacy and security issues as well as undesirable and dangerous health effects on wearers (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6).

Activity trackers emit biologically harmful Electromagnetic Radiation aka “Electrosmog”.  “Smart” home devices emit it too.  People (and animals) react to exposure differently and symptoms may not be immediate.  Misdiagnosis for “Microwave Sickness” or “Electromagnetic Sensitivity” is common.

Research has also already determined that exposure to sources of wireless radiation disrupts the blood brain barrier which can cause it to leak and kill brain cells.  Research has also determined that this can reduce impulse control and increase the potential for homicide and violence.  So doesn’t making people who already have mental health issues wear wireless radiation emitting trackers and requiring them to install wireless radiation emitting “Smart” listening devices and sensors in their homes seems like a recipe for more disasters?  Wouldn’t it be better to reduce their exposure instead of bathing them in more of it?

From Activist Post: “HARPA: Trump Seeking New Agency to Use A.I. to Screen Mental Health for Gun Ownership?”

HARPA — the Health Advanced Research Projects Agency — has been in the works as a proposal since 2017 by the Trump Administration according to the Washington Post, but is reportedly gaining steam again as the administration grapples with solutions for mass shootings and calls for gun control. If this new report is to be believed, the Trump admin is putting its faith in artificial intelligence as a possible way to screen people for mental health (through data collected by wearables and smart devices) in order to determine violent tendencies and perhaps thwart gun purchases for those deemed to be a potential mass shooter.

The Suzanne Wright Foundation proposed to the White House that HARPA include a “Stopping Aberrant Fatal Events by Helping Overcome Mental Extremes,” or “Safe Home,” project. This would seek to identify “neurobehavioral signs” of “someone headed toward a violent explosive act” using volunteer data. The four-year project would cost an estimated $40 to $60 million, according to Geoffrey Ling, the founding director of the Biological Technologies Office at DARPA and the lead scientific adviser on HARPA.

“Everybody would be a volunteer,” Ling told the Post. “We’re not inventing new science here. We’re analyzing it so we can develop new approaches.”

As I’ve been reporting over the last several years, the use of artificial intelligence to determine and even predict mental state — typically depression — is a trend on the rise, so the idea that domestic terrorism would potentially be the catalyst for ushering in its more widespread use seems to be plausible.

Gizmodo also weighed in:

It’s an approach that strikes George David Annas, deputy director of the Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University, as ridiculous.

“The proposed data collection goes beyond absurdity when they mention the desire to collect FitBit data,” Annas told Gizmodo. “I am unaware of any study linking walking too much and committing mass murder. As for the other technologies, what are these people expecting? ‘Alexa, tell me the best way to kill a lot of people really quickly’? Really?”
