The Vagaries of Tobacco, Food, and Vaccine Ads and Their Impacts Upon Health?

By Catherine J Frompovich

Probably the most respected name in allopathic medical circles regarding food, nutrition, and a plant-based-diet is that of Dr Michael Greger, MD, of NutritionFacts.org, author of The New York Times Best Seller book How Not To Die.

Dr Greger is rather passionate about the cavalier pseudoscience the tobacco industry produced regarding the ‘safety’ of cigarette smoking. Personally, I think the American Medical Association’s pitching of a fundamentally harmful consumer product was nothing short of deceitful.

Listening to Dr Greger expound upon how the AMA, and medicine in general, screwed up about tobacco science – not to mention smoking’s corollary diseases, one realizes that leads Dr Greger to take on the medical profession regarding its under-educated minions of ill-informed professionals regarding food science and factual nutrition and to criticize the stranglehold industrial agriculture and food processors have on promoting nutrient-deficient food information.

Here’s that amazing, provocative video about corrupt tobacco science and how that debacle, in retrospect, can be analogized with current food and Big Ag propaganda regarding nutrition and diet.

After listening to Dr Greger, I think readers readily will understand that lung cancer was extremely rare before tobacco use and ads promoted smoking. Didn’t most doctors smoke Camel cigarettes? Did medical professionals repeatedly promote bum dope about health issues? Are they still doing the same regarding medicinal ideology?

Furthermore, doctors even could write a prescription for cigarettes, as per an ad in the Journal of the American Medical Association! Snidely, cigarette makers crowed that no lung tumor was ever found with a little tag attached saying that it was made in the tobacco fields of North Carolina. Would you believe that Congress and taxpayers even subsidized tobacco growers! [1]
