Uranium One lawyer Victoria Toensing joining Trump legal team as pressure mounts on Mueller

(National SentinelLegal Eagle: President Donald J. Trump has added Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing to his legal team as he mounts pressure on special counsel Robert Mueller to end his investigation.

DiGenova, a former federal prosecutor, has long been critical of Mueller’s probe and has said on multiple occasions he believes that Deep State figures during the Obama administration concocted the Russian collusion narrative as a way to thwart Trump and his administration.

Toensing, diGenova’s wife who worked as a lawyer for the Senate Intelligence Committee in the 1980s, also represents William D. Campbell who was a deep-cover operative for the FBI during the sale of Uranium One.

As reported by Fox News:

Toensing served as deputy assistant attorney general in the criminal division of the Justice Department under the Reagan administration, and as an assistant U.S. attorney in Detroit. Toensing was chief counsel for then-Sen. Barry Goldwater, who sat as chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.

The hirings come at a time when the president and his allies are turning up the heat on Mueller for finding no evidence of collusion between the 2016 Trump campaign and Russia after a year’s worth of investigating.

Mueller was given a limitless mandate when he was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein after Attorney General Jeff Sessions recused himself from the Russia investigation.

Trump has been increasingly frustrated by the ongoing probe, calling it a “witch hunt” and saying that it is undermining attempts to improve relations with Moscow.

“Special Council is told to find crimes, whether a crime exists or not. I was opposed to the selection of Mueller to be Special Council. I am still opposed to it. I think President Trump was right when he said there never should have been a Special Council appointed because……..there was no probable cause for believing that there was any crime, collusion or otherwise, or obstruction of justice!” So stated by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz,” Trump tweeted Wednesday.

On Saturday, Trump tweeted, “The Mueller probe should never have been started in that there was no collusion and there was no crime. It was based on fraudulent activities and a Fake Dossier paid for by Crooked Hillary and the DNC, and improperly used in FISA COURT for surveillance of my campaign. WITCH HUNT!”

3/25/18 Update: News reports noted that diGenova would not be joining Trump’s legal team after all. The president said the reason had to do with diGenova being unable to clear his schedule and that it would take some time for him to get up to speed.
