Turkey’s Erdogan: ‘We Have No Intention of Invading Syria’

(TM— “Our territories are enough, we have no intention of invading Syria,” Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on Thursday, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported.

His remarks came during a ceremony at the Turkish Military Academy.

“Frankly, Turkey is the only country in Syria for humanitarian reasons,” he added.

Turkey has been backing rebel forces since the eruption of a civil war in Syria in March 2011.

The Turkish army launched two military operations in northern Syria in 2016 and 2018 with the help of the Free Syrian Army (FSA), targeting a Kurdish militia.

Ankara has recently been preparing for another offensive in the Kurdish-held Manbij city, east of the Euphrates River.
