RCR Wireless Reports About Where There Is Increasing U.S. Opposition to 5G Small Cell Deployment

By B.N. Frank

Opposition to 5G installation in the U.S. is increasing and for many good reasons.  In February, telecom executives gave congressional testimony that they had NO scientific evidence that exposure isn’t harmful.  Many doctors and scientists warn exposure IS harmful (see 1, 2, 3).  Opposition and warnings about widespread 5G installation have also been cited by environmentalists (see 1, 2, 3), engineers (see 1, 2), meteorologists, NASA, NOAA, the U.S. Navy, security experts, utility companies, and even tech enthusiasts.  Lawsuits have also been filed against government regulatory agency Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for forcing its installation (see 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

Some media sources continue to promote 5G as safe anyway – sometimes in ways that are desperate, juvenile and tacky (see 1, 2, 3).  Sometimes they leave out relevant information.  Recently RCR Wireless reported about U.S. opposition but also left out relevant information.  At least they didn’t blame the Russians…

5G, the fifth generation of wireless technology, will give consumers access to more information faster and make businesses more efficient, and will create an unprecedented level connectivity around the world. However, 5G also requires high-band spectrum, which penetrates poorly and has weak coverage area, resulting in the need for small antenna systems, or small cell systems, to be deployed in large numbers and in close proximity to one another.

While these frequently placed small cell towers are necessary for 5G deployment, they are being met with hesitation — and in some cases, downright disdain — by residents and tribal and environmental groups who at best, consider the towers an eye sore and at worst, a serious health risk.

All across the U.S., from California to Colorado to New York, concerns are pouring in.

These health concerns arise from the fact small cell towers must be placed close together and in large numbers. In Syracuse, for example, they will be installed on nearly every block, resulting in constant, long-term exposure to radiofrequency radiation, and this, many argue, might have unknown side effects.

Most experts and organizations including the American Cancer Society and the Environmental Protection Agency don’t classify radiofrequency radiation as cancer-causing for humans; this, however, has done little to quiet those in opposition.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and many others experts insist that exposure to RadioFrequency Radiation (RF) is at least possibly cancer causing in humans if not more so.  The American Academy of Pediatrics and other health experts have warned that children are more vulnerable to illness and injury from exposure and it’s not just about cancer.  Of course, exposure isn’t just about cancer for adults or animals either.

5G is already operating in some communities and adults, kids, and pets have been reported as becoming sick from it (see 1, 2, 3).
