Cow Dramatically Escapes Slaughterhouse, Swims to Island and Lives Happily Ever After

(TMU— In Poland, there is a cow living alone on an island, who is prepared to attack anyone who comes near her. She’s been on that island for about one month after she staged a herculean escape and swam to freedom.

The cow was being urged to enter a lorry, which would transport her to a slaughterhouse, when she made a run for it. The Independent reports that she rammed a metal fence before heading to the nearby Lake Nysa, in southern Poland.

The cow’s owner, known as Mr. Lukasz, tried to capture the animal and return her to the farm. But, this didn’t end well. According to the Polish news show Wiadomosci, the cow broke the arm of one worker before the group backed off.

Once she entered the water, the cow swam to one of the islands in the middle of the lake. According to Lukasz, he saw the animal dive underwater on its way. For an entire week, Lukasz tried — and failed — to get the cow back. Not wanting her to starve, he brought her food.

At one point, firefighters used a boat to reach the island. To avoid capture, the cow swam about 50 meters to a neighboring peninsula. The deputy commander of the fire brigade in Nysa, Pawel Gotowski, commented that the animal was frightened but healthy.

A frustrated Lukasz even called a veterinarian to tranquilize the animal. However, the vet apparently ran out of gas cartridges and had to delay the process by three days.

Once the media caught wind of the story, a political leader in the town of Nysa, Czeslaw Bilobran, reportedly said the cow will live its life in peace. This crushed Lukasz’s hope of shooting it dead.

Pawel Kukiz, politician and former singer, took to social media to raise awareness about the animal’s plight. He outright offered to pay for the “hero cow,” just to save her from death.

Said Kukiz:

“She escaped heroically and infiltrated the island in the middle of the lake, where it remains today. She did not succumb to firefighters who wanted to transport her by boat and she was still on the battlefield.”

“I am not a vegetarian, but fortitude and the will to fight for this cow’s life is invaluable. Therefore, I decided to do everything to cause the cow to be delivered to a safe place and in the second stage, as a reward for her attitude, give her a guarantee of a long-term retirement and natural death,” he added.
