Kamala Harris labels ICE enforcement actions as ‘campaign of terror’ against illegal aliens

(NationalSentinel) Sen. Kamala Harris, a leading 2020 Democratic presidential contender, characterized the Trump administration’s recent immigration enforcement actions in Mississippi as a “campaign of terror” in comments that were also critical of Immigration and Customs Enforcement personnel Sunday.

This administration has directed DHS to conduct these raids as part of what I believe is this administration’s campaign of terror,” she said on NBC News‘ “Meet the Press.” “To make whole populations of people afraid to go to work.

“Children are afraid to go to school for fear that when they come home, their parents won’t be there,” Harris continued.

Harris, a California Democrat, went onto to say that President Donald Trump has failed to deliver on a number of promises to Americans who voted for him.

“Here’s the thing. There are people who voted for him for a variety of reasons,” she said earlier in the interview. “And a lot of it had to do with the promises he made, which he has not delivered on because they were false promises.

“And he betrayed a lot of people. He came in saying he was going to help working families. Everyone from farmers to auto workers.”

For his part, the president defended the ICE raids last week, calling them a “very good deterrent” to anyone thinking of crossing illegally into the U.S.

“I want people to know that if they come into the United States illegally, they’re getting out. They’re going to be brought out. And this serves as a very good deterrent,” he said.

Reports noted earlier this week that ICE internal enforcement operations netted more than 650 suspected illegal aliens at seven food processing plants in Mississippi, though by Thursday, ICE officials said, more than 300 hundred had been released, the Washington Times reported.

Deterrence is “a big factor” in conducting the sweeps, the president said, as a warning to people living in Central America and elsewhere that considering taking part in a caravan to the United States.

“They may get in, although we’re being very tough, but they may get in, but it doesn’t matter,” the president said. “Because they’re going out. And when people see what they saw [Wednesday], like they will see for a long time, they know that they’re not staying here.”

As for the president’s promises, a number of conservatives say they believe that the president has studiously delivered on as many of them that are within his power to deliver.

During a post-campaign speech interview in Orlando, Fla., in June, Fox News interviewed a number of Trump supporters who specifically back him because they believe he has kept his promises.

“This president has kept his promises to the people of the United States, whether it’s popular or not, he keeps his promise. He has more energy and that place was explosive tonight, full of enthusiasm and the man is like the Everready Bunny. God bless Donald Trump,” said one woman named Susan.

“Man, honestly, as a black America, I have never seen a president do so much for our community as this president,” another supporter named Mike said.

“You’re talking about lowest unemployment” for blacks, historically, “you got prison reform — First Step Act — urban revitalization.

“This president is delivering on his promises and he’s unifying the country on top of that,” Mike continued. “You know, over on the Left, I had an opportunity to go and see the anti-Trump protesting, and it was all just negativity.

“The energy in this room was electric and positive,” he continued. “You know, conservatives call me ‘patriot,’ ‘American,’ ‘brother’…Leftists, they call me other things that I will not say on TV. But as Americans, we are united under this president.”
