California city denies permit for ‘straight pride’ parade

(NationalSentinel) The City of Modesto, California, has denied a permit for a “straight pride” parade that was scheduled for Aug. 24, according to the event organizer, the National Straight Pride Coalition.

Meanwhile, city officials have granted a parade permit to a for a Gay Pride Festival to take place in the city around the same time, prompting accusations of a double standard from the coalition.

In addition, the gay pride event appears to receive a significant amount of city resources as well.

On their website, the National Straight Pride Coalition expresses support for heterosexuality, God-ordained nuclear families, Western Civilization, Caucasians, Christianity and Nationalism.

In addition, the group says it seeks to prevent “the current and future generations of all races and colors from being destroyed by the inherent malevolence of the Homosexual Movement toward our founding principles.”

In a statement, a spokesman for the city, Thomas Reeves, said the National Straight Pride Coalition’s permit request was denied due to safety concerns over the group’s loss of liability insurance. The Modesto park department determined that the event was also not consistent with park usage.

Reeves said the city would grant the group a permit for a downtown plaza if it obtained insurance by Tuesday. But some observers said it could be that the city was merely going through the motions of the permitting process and has no real plans to issue one.
