While DC girds for ‘The Comey Show,’ Americans more concerned about economy, failing healthcare
(National Sentinel) Media Circus: In case you haven’t heard, former FBI Director James Comey, whom President Donald J. Trump fired recently and who refused to recommend Hillary Clinton be prosecuted under the same statute as NSA leaker, Reality Winner, is scheduled to testify in public Thursday.
CNN has a countdown clock, billing the ‘The Comey Show’ as something bigger even than the Super Bowl. Most other mainstream media networks announced plans to broadcast his congressional testimony live. Some DC bars are opening early, featuring “Russian-themed drinks.” Oh, how clever; we get it. ‘Cause “Russia stole the election for Trump, and collusion, and Hillary should be president…”
If only the rest of America gave a damn about this ridiculous spectacle as much as the idiot brigades in Official Washington. Uh, but they don’t.
A recent Gallup survey found that by far most Americans care a lot more about real issues that affect them, like the economy (No. 1), their collapsing healthcare system, and (not surprisingly) draining the incestuous, infested D.C. swamp.
Meanwhile, President Donald J. Trump – who has the power to stop Comey’s testimony but is not opting for that – will be busy focusing on our issues, as Breitbart News reported:
While Washington will be glued to their TV sets and computers on Thursday, Trump will be speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference and participating in an infrastructure summit with governors and mayors.
The event will highlight his push to modernize American infrastructure, its highways, waterways, electrical and airway systems.
The Senate Intelligence Committee hearing is slated to begin at 10 a.m. eastern and begin with opening statements from the chairman and vice chairman of the committee. Comey will then deliver an opening statement, and senators will have the opportunity to question Comey, with multiple rounds of questions expected. The hearing is expected to last hours. The closed hearing is scheduled at 1 p.m. eastern.
But already some are worried it won’t live up to its hype. For one thing, Comey won’t be able to discuss any classified information in the public portion of the hearing; for another, while Democratic opponents of Trump will use any insinuation by Comey as de facto proof of some nefarious act, the former director is no idiot and knows what he says will be cross-examined and subject to much scrutiny.
