Wait, what? Office of Special Counsel sends report to Trump recommending action against Kellyanne Conway for Hatch Act violations

(National SentinelDeep State: The Office of Special Counsel has sent a report to President Donald J. Trump recommending disciplinary action against his top political advisor, Kellyanne Conway, for alleged violations of the Hatch Act.

As reported by the Washington Times, last year Conway appeared in a pair of TV interviews during which time she promoted the U.S. Senate candidacy of Judge Roy Moore while discouraging voters in Alabama from supporting his Democratic opponent, Doug Jones, who eventually won the race by a narrow margin.

The special counsel’s report cited interviews from Conway’s appearances on Fox News and CNN during which time she acted in her “official capacity” as the presidential counselor. That represents a Hatch Act violation, which stipulates that White House officials can voice opinions on political candidates but cannot actively campaign while serving in their government role.

“In passing this law, Congress intended to promote public confidence in the Executive branch by ensuring the federal government is working for all Americans without regard to their political views,” according to the report from Henry Kerner, the special counsel.

“Ms. Conway’s statements during the Fox & Friends and New Day interviews impermissibly mixed official government business with political views about candidates in the Alabama special election for U.S. Senate.”

The Times said it was not yet clear what disciplinary action Conway would face, but she could be slapped with a pay deduction or removal from her position, according to the law.
