Israeli Military Court Extends Detention of 16-Year Old Palestinian Girl
(MEMO) — An Israeli military court in Ofer Prison has extended the detention of Ahed al-Tamimi, 16, from Nabi Saleh Village in the occupied West Bank for four more days, Israeli media reported on Monday.
According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the judges at the Israeli military court, where Al-Tamimi appeared surrounded by 14 policemen and women, said that the Palestinian girl may have obstructed the course of justice.
The newspaper also reported one of the judges as saying that she could have put in danger the life of the Israeli soldier, whom she was imprisoned for slapping.
On Tuesday last week, Israeli occupation forces raided Al-Tamimi’s home and “abducted” her, Israeli journalist Gideon Levy said in an article published by Haaretz.
She was arrested after she was seen in a video that went viral on social media showing her along with her cousin slapping an Israeli soldier in the courtyard of her house.
Levy said that this came after the Israeli soldiers shot her 15-year-old brother in the head.
Tamimi’s mother and father were subsequently arrested.
