He DID IT: Sessions has appointed ‘senior prosecutor’ OUTSIDE D.C. to probe FISA abuses
(National Sentinel) Behind the Scenes: Attorney General Jeff Session’s office confirmed to Fox News correspondent Shannon Bream Thursday that the AG has appointed a “senior federal prosecutor” to look into alleged abuses of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court by the Obama administration.
In an interview with Bream on Wednesday, Sessions appeared to lay the groundwork for the appointment of a second special counsel to look into allegations of abuse but did not say specifically that a special counsel appointment was coming.

On Tuesday, House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., and Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., demanded the appointment of a second special counsel to investigate FISA abuses, The Gateway Pundit reported.
And last week, GOP Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., sent a letter to Sessions urging him to appoint a special counsel to investigate FISA abuses as well as how and why the FBI’s probe into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified emails ended and President Donald J. Trump’s “Russian collusion” investigation began. More than a dozen lawmakers have since signed Zeldin’s letter.
On Wednesday evening, Sessions confirmed to Bream that he has appointed someone outside of Washington, D.C., to examine evidence — part of which was outlined in the House Intelligence Committee’s “FISA memo” issued by the Republican leadership.
On Thursday, Bream confirmed with Session’s office that the AG was not talking about the inspector general, Michael Horowitz, but a separate “senior federal prosecutor.”
“Well, I have great respect for Mr. Gowdy and Chairman Goodlatte, and we are going to consider seriously their recommendations,” Sessions told Bream in an interview that ran late Wednesday night.
“I have appointed a person outside of Washington — many years at the Department of Justice — to look at all of the allegations that the House Judiciary Committee members sent to us and we are conducting that investigation.”
In addition, Sessions said he is “well aware that we have a responsibility to ensure the integrity of the FISA process.”
“We are not afraid to look at that,” the AG, and former Alabama senator, explained. “The inspector general, some think that our inspector general is not very strong, but he has almost 500 employees, most of which are lawyers and prosecutors, and they are looking at the FISA process.”
“We must make sure it is done properly, and we are going to do that, and I will consider the request.”
