DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen puts hack Dem Sen. Kamala Harris in her place over immigration policy
(National Sentinel) Law Enforcement: Democrats can’t come right out and say they are all for open borders because outside of their narrow corridors of support they understand the majority of the country doesn’t agree.
That’s a very large part of why Donald J. Trump is currently our commander-in-chief and two-time presidential loser Hillary Clinton continues to live in denial.
So Democrats are left with needling the president and members of his administration over every single immigration policy they attempt to put in place.
On Tuesday it was California Sen. Kamala Harris’ turn at the helm.
Harris was grilling Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen over the administration’s policy of separating illegal aliens from their children when they are caught entering the country together, The Daily Caller reported.
The site added:
Harris opposes the policy, in which illegal alien adults are detained and children are placed in the custody of the Department of Health and Human Services while the adult’s case is adjudicated.
“I’m extremely concerned about the administration’s repeated attacks on some of the most vulnerable communities, and in particular, children and pregnant women as it relates to the world of DHS,” Harris said of illegal aliens, as she began her opening statement during a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee Tuesday.
Nielsen didn’t take the bait. She told the senator that she has not been asked to separate illegal alien children from their parents as a deterrent.
“My decision has been that anyone who breaks the law will be prosecuted,” she said.
“If you’re a parent or you’re a single person or you happen to have a family, if you cross between the ports of entry, we will refer you for prosecution. You’ve broken U.S. law,” Nielsen added.
Continuing, Harris said she was concerned that when parents are arrested they are separated from their children.
For her part, Nielson reminded Harris that American citizens who are parents are separated from their children every day in the U.S. when they are arrested and/or sentenced to prison.
So what’s the difference, in other words, and why isn’t Harris worried about American children?
When an illegal alien is arrested crossing the border with a child, Harris said she worries “they will be separated from their parent.”
Right, Nielsen responded, “Just as we do in the United States every day.”
Many on the Left fancy Harris, a black woman, as the go-to Democratic presidential candidate to put up against Trump.
To which we respond, “We can only hope.”
