BOOM: Australian diplomat whose FBI tip prompted Russia probe has TIES to Clintons

(National SentinelDeep State: The Australian diplomat whose 2016 tip reportedly spurred the Russia-Trump “collusion” investigation had previously arranged one of the biggest foreign donations to Bill and Hillary Clinton’s foundation, according to documents.

The Hill reported Tuesday that former Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer played a significant role in securing $25 million in aid from his government to assist the Clinton Foundation in its AIDS fight, all of which is documented in decade-old government memos that were archived on the Australian foreign ministry’s website.

The former president and Downer signed a Memorandum of Understanding in February 2006 calling for the grant money to be spread out over a period of four years for an AIDS screening and drug treatment project in Asia.

“The money was initially allocated to the Clinton Foundation but later was routed through an affiliate of the charity known as the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), officials said. Australia was one of four foreign governments to donate more than $25 million to CHAI, records show,” The Hill‘s John Solomon reported.

In the following years the project won praise for assisting thousands of HIV-infected patients in Papua New Guinea, Vietnam, China. However, it was also criticized by auditors about “management weaknesses” and inadequate budget oversight, according to memos.

Solomon reported further that the FBI never informed Congress about Downer’s Clinton connection:

Downer, now Australia’s ambassador to London, provided the account of a conversation with Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos at a London bar in 2016 that became the official reason the FBI opened the Russia counterintelligence probe.

But lawmakers say the FBI didn’t tell Congress about Downer’s prior connection to the Clinton Foundation. Republicans say they are concerned the new information means nearly all of the early evidence the FBI used to justify its election-year probe of Trump came from sources supportive of the Clintons, including the controversial Steele dossier.

“The Clintons’ tentacles go everywhere. So, that’s why it’s important,” said Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) chairman of a House Oversight and Government Reform subcommittee.

“We continue to get new information every week it seems that sort of underscores the fact that the FBI hasn’t been square with us,” Jordon added, according to The Hill.

In January, The National Sentinel reported that the FBI launched another probe into possible Clinton Foundation malfeasance using evidence given to the bureau by a former Australian police officer-turned-investigative journalist.

“I have been asked to provide the FBI with further and better particulars about allegations regarding improper donations to the CF funded by Australian taxpayers,” Michael Smith told LifeZette, which noted further:

At the center of Smith’s complaints are former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, and multiple Australian government officials, including senior diplomat Alexander Downer, that government’s high commissioner to the United Kingdom.

Downer hit U.S. headlines recently when he was reported to have told the FBI of a May 2016 conversation he had with George Papadopoulos, then a campaign aide to President Donald Trump. Downer told U.S. law enforcement officials that Papadopoulos told him Russia had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton.

The New York Times claimed in a Dec. 30, 2017, story that the information Downer gave the FBI was a principal factor in the bureau’s decision to investigate allegations of collusion between Russian government interests and the Trump campaign.
