A Zoo Atlanta giraffe “died unexpectedly” this week, zoo officials have revealed. 

The zoo detailed the Monday afternoon incident involving 8-year-old Zuberi in a Facebook post.

“Zuberi was at the Zoo’s giraffe building, an area very familiar to him and the other members of his herd, and had been observed by members of his care team just moments before a portion of his neck became wedged in a small space in a metal railing,” the post explained. “The Animal Care Team responded immediately, with the Veterinary Team and large-mammal animal care specialists on the scene, but Zuberi died very shortly thereafter.”

The animal’s official cause of death isn’t going to be known until a necropsy is completed.

“It’s not like a railing where a child could put their head through. It surprised us all,” Dr. Jennifer Mickelberg told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 

Zoo Atlanta said its “teams are thoroughly reviewing the entirety of the areas used by the giraffes,” and offered information on other giraffes. 

“The other members of Zuberi’s herd, adult males Abu, 12, Etana, 6, and Isooba, 6, are behaving normally following the loss of their herd member and do not have access to the area where the incident occurred,” the zoo shared.

Zuberi turned 8 years old on February 13.

Michigan deputies responded to a semi-truck crash on a local interstate late Monday. When they arrived, they learned the truck was hauling a rather unusual shipment to New York: Bengal tigers.

The Bay County Sheriff’s deputies were aware the truck was hauling animals, but they were not informed of what kind prior to arriving at the crash site, Michigan Live reported.

The semi-truck “hydroplaned and its driver lost control of the rig, causing it to leave the roadway, enter a grassy median and jackknife,” Sheriff Troy R. Cunningham told the news site. The tigers were not injured in the crash, nor was the driver.

The tigers, each weighing roughly 600 pounds, are owned by a circus company, though it’s not currently clear which one.

The Bengal tigers, which are endangered, according to the World Wildlife Fund, were held at a local towing company overnight as authorities worked to clear the crash site. 

This was no oridinary rodeo: a loose pony was spotted out and about in a California city on Saturday.

“Never a dull moment at Animal Services!” the Kern County Animal Services Facebook page said Saturday. “Early this morning Officer Gomez assisted CHP - Bakersfield in the hot pursuit of a loose pony through the streets of Bakersfield.”

The post added, “The pony made its way down Rosedale Highway eventually turning on Fruitvale Ave towards the shelter.”

Included in the social media post was a shot of the animal on a road.

Animal Services and the California Highway Patrol took the animal to a shelter, KGET reports.

In an update, Kern County Animal Services said that the pony was “reunited with its owners.”

A family of raccoons fell through the ceiling of a man's home in Sheridan Township, Michigan, and ended up in the living room, Fox 17 reported.

The Albion Department of Public Safety posted video of authorities responding on its Facebook page Friday after the homeowner reportedly sought help.

“What do you do when you’re sitting in your living room and a raccoon and her 5 babies suddenly fall through the ceiling onto your couch?” the department captioned the video.

The mother raccoon bit a responder’s gloves at one point.

She was eventually apprehended with the help of a dog catcher pole, the video showed. 

The footage posted by the department has been viewed 37,000 times on Facebook as of Monday afternoon. 

The Jackson Citizen Patriot said the mother raccoon’s babies “were small enough to be picked up and placed in a plastic tub.”

No people or animals were injured in the incident, and the critters were taken away and released back into the wild.

The public safety department has not yet returned Fox News' request for further comment.
