This story could be told in two ways. Starting with the problem and ending with the solution, or the reverse. In the case of this controversial UFO photograph from the early years of the flying saucers craze, I will not follow the chronology of when researchers became aware of the facts but the historical sequence, that is, when things developed, although they were known later. It reported that at 3:30 pm on the prior Sunday, Mr. Mauricio Basurco, a dental technician, and his two twin sisters saw “something black” through one window of their apartment. “Immediately I thought of the flying saucers fad,” the man said. This object was lost to sight between roofs. One of the ladies went to the kitchen’s window and from there they witnessed two more objects. “They didn´t look like airplanes to us,” Mr. Basurco claimed. They were oval-shaped with a black stripe in the middle emitting sparks around. They crossed a cloud bank and reappeared on the background of the blue sky. Now, their shape was “black and they looked like a gramophone record.” Then, five more objects bobbed up, three of which marched almost altogether, “as in a squadron”. The sighting lasted 5-6 minutes.

In my view, this is the unsuspected prelude, never told before, to a long story.
The Teen-Age Times was a short-lived1 weekly magazine for youngsters edited in Dublin (Ireland). Sensationalism-bound, the March 24-26, 1950 edition carried on its cover page an extraordinary and exclusive news feature: Russians had developed a “suspension bomb” that would be “swinging like a red star over your city,” and this could somehow be related to the apparition of flying saucers. This piece was signed by “Nobel Price”. Hand in hand with the information was a photograph of nothing less than “the first sensational picture of The Flying Saucers.” Two bomb shells, indeed…if true. Regarding the so-called suspension bombs, nobody heard about this anymore. Regarding the picture, we will judge it later.

usual “cheese” level you can get with “fringe” documentaries of this nature. Hastings makes it clear that this is no joke and that if the unknown individuals piloting these mysterious craft can disable nuclear weapons – or, more scarily – trigger launch countdowns, only to stop them at will – it is something humanity needs to address openly and honestly.

And when Hastings is asked why these UFOs are interfering with humankind's civilization-ending weapons arsenal, he suggested that "they" are warning humanity not to "play with fire."

We agree. And seven years ago, CNN took the topic seriously enough to provide coverage of a Washington press conference addressing the subject of UFOs and their links to nukes. Sobering stuff.

For example, in one, “After visiting the ruins of the Poenari stronghold (from XIV century, rebuilt in 1459 by Prince Vlad Ţepeş of Walachia, “The Impaler”, who was the model for “Count Dracula”),” a couple had a UFO sighting. They saw a giant disc arise from a lake, which they could see perfectly as their eyes followed it in terror. First, they had the impression it would head in their direction, but instead it moved north toward Transylvania and disappeared over the mountains.

Many other such encounters are described often with several witnesses–often very credible technically trained ones, good descriptions of the objects, and even good physical evidence such as radar detections. Out-of-place artefacts are also described.

This book is a thoroughly researched and well-written account of UFOs that tries be fair minded and balanced. The author compared UFO phenomena to the six Blind Men exploring portions of the Elephant parable, and concluded that various fields such as science, religion, folklore, paranormal studies, ufology, and others each have their own means, but each also represent an extremely complex reality.

I recently bought and down loaded Robert Hastings' UFO documentary film "UFOs and Nukes: The Secret Link Revealed." This is supposedly Hastings' milestone achievement in conjunction with his book UFO and Nukes which was published some years back. The major theme of the documentary appears to be that UFOs and its occupants have been observing the US and the former USSR during the Cold War. These alleged observations center around both nations' nuclear weapons sites. Basically extraterrestrials have been attempting to send both nations a message or warning concerning the use of nuclear weapons.

The documentary makes an attempt to establish the notion that UFOs have not only overflown our nuclear weapons sites, but have made numerous attempts to disrupt the operational status of our nation's ICBM forces. On some occasions, UFOs are allegedly to have actually caused Minuteman ICBM missiles to drop off strategic alert. Hastings offers the viewers what he believes to be compelling evidence that supports his premise.


The film is 48 minutes long. The overall quality of the production is good when it is compared to past attempts at depicting the UFO subject in documentary form. I use the following as an example of very poor quality: New Discovery Channel UFO Program's Segment on Robert Salas and Oscar Flight. I believe that Hastings' production crew out performed Discovery Channel on this one.

The quality of the film's sound is good. The narration is clear and understandable. The same can be said of the witness presentations for clarity of content. The sound from the archival footage is also easy to hear and comprehend with no noise distortion noted.

The graphics are clear and easy to read. I had issue with the use of supporting documents fading in and out with a change in background color. This is a personal opinion as others who view the film may not see this as a distraction.

Hastings is to be commended for his selection and use of archive photos/film depicting Strategic Air Command (SAC) missile operations and it's missile crews as well as that of the bomber force. I like the visual of the old crew whites with the squadron patches on the right side of the uniform shirt above the pocket. The use of the Launch Control Facility and Launch Facility at the Ronald Reagan Minuteman Missile Historical Site was a great idea. This provides a realistic setting for Hastings theme and puts everything in proper context related to the weapon system. ...

Once again this year, I attended the International UFO Congress at the We-Ko-Pa Resort, Conference Center, and Casino, near Phoenix, Arizona. It looks much the same as last year, except for the really ugly bright orange bags we were all given. There are not as many plastic alien statues as last year, but there still are a few scattered about.

     One thing that strikes me about claims of alien visitation is that so much of the evidence is musty and fusty.

Every day, I get stories and articles from people around the world who aggregate UFO news. But much of it is not news -- it's olds. The folks who think there's good proof that Earth is a stomping ground for extraterrestrials are still hung up on the Roswell incident of 1947 or its British opposite number, the Rendlesham Forest event of 1980. They're still citing the testimony of aging politicians, defense establishment types and Apollo astronauts who "know something."

The few alternatives to this vintage archive are contemporary photos and videos of vague lights in the sky, low-resolution and low-confidence material that isn't likely to sway many scientists. The good stuff seems to be the old stuff.

To better judge if this is really true, I trawled the web for listings of "the best UFO cases." I quickly collected nearly 100 events that were considered worthy, of which 60 were unique, in the sense of not being repeats [...] .
