FORT COLLINS — A Loveland man facing charges of possessing and distributing child pornography had his March jury trial vacated Friday and reset for eight days starting July 31.

The case of defendant Stanley Romanek, a 53-year-old self-proclaimed UFO and extraterrestrial expert, has been open on the court's docket for more than 1,100 days, Eighth Judicial District Judge Susan Blanco noted in postponing the trial.

Prosecuting attorney Josh Ritter did not object to further delaying the case.

Romanek waived his right to a speedy trial Friday so his attorneys, Elizabeth and Theodore McClintock, have time to review additional evidence that has surfaced in the case.

"We're talking a lot of forensic evidence [uncovered by the prosecution] here," Elizabeth McClintock said to the court.

A bus-size asteroid that buzzed between the Earth and the moon at 3:25 p.m. EST (2025 GMT) on Thursday (Feb. 2) was spotted by one of the Slooh Community Observatory telescopes in the Canary Islands.

The asteroid, dubbed 2017 BS32, was first identified by the Panoramic Survey Telescope & Rapid Response System, or Pan-STARRS, on Jan. 30, and came to within half the distance between the Earth and the moon on Feb. 2, according to Slooh. The space rock is between 36 and 82 feet long (11 to 25 meters), and was traveling at a speed of 25,800 mph (42,000 km/h), or about 16 times faster than a bullet shot out of an AK-47 rifle, according to Slooh astronomer Erik Edelman.

“Along with another cadet I came at the central parking lot at 3 a.m. and saw a big circle in the sky straight on top off us,” the witness stated.“It had no shape, but only bright lights slowly rotating anti-clockwise and the light points itself didn’t rotate. The colors were in a liquid manner.”

The object was large and the witness wondered exactly what it was.

“I estimate the object about 30 to 50 meters in diameter. The first thing we both thought was a blimp, a zeppelin, the one like Goodyear has with the light screens on the sides. But the fact that it was very low and absolutely stationary and silent made it very, very odd.”

Soon the object began to rotate.

“After some minutes the lights started to rotate faster and suddenly it took off at really incredible speed to the west. A couple of seconds later we felt a short, hard wind blowing which stayed on top of us like a downwash from a helicopter.”

The witness had a clear view of the object.

“If there was a way to describe the speed this thing was going, but I can’t. We had a clear view for over 30 km – that’s 20 miles-plus. This thing covered that distance from stationary in something like 0.10 seconds. I know aviation and have flying experience and I am very technical. [...] My Uncle and I were on a road trip to the outback of NSW to paint on a property just to the North of Broken Hill, NSW Australia. We had driven from Maroochydore, Sunshine Coast, Queensland and had decided to camp for the night at the football oval camping area near the Barwon River at Collarenebri NSW. The football oval is on the opposite side of the Barwon River to the township of Collarenebri. At about 9 pm we had retired for the evening, my Uncle was sleeping in the rooftop tent on my 2005 Hyundai Terracan, 4WD vehicle and I was sleeping on a mattress inside the rear of the vehicle, with the windows and rear door open and covered in fly-screen, my head towards the front of the vehicle.

I was laying down and looking at the stars to the North East, when I saw a thin, light blue and grey smoky coloured object appear, about 20 metres above the treetops. I think it would have been about the size of the full moon, with the foggy part extending each side, to make it appear bigger. The object could have risen from the ground, when I first noticed the object it was above the trees a couple of hundred metres to the North East of my position.

The object rose in the night sky and moved closer towards our position. It appeared to be a flock of Corellas at first, as I had mistaken the movement of the lights to be white wings of birds. As it came closer I could see that it resembled a Boomerang shape and had multiple revolving white lights on its underside.

As the object got closer, and higher in the sky, I could see that it was a translucent, cloudy, fog like, and boomerang shaped, with multiple white revolving lights underneath, about as bright as stars. No noise was heard when this object moved overhead about 30 metres above the treetops. I pushed my head out of the flyscreen which was covering the gap of the open, rear, passenger side window and I watched it go over the top of the vehicle until I could no longer see it.

The lights on the underside were about as bright as stars in the Milky Way, which were surrounding it, maybe that is why I say that it appeared translucent because the intensity of those lights were not dissimilar to the stars.

The object was about 30 metres across and about 8 to 10 metres thick in the middle of the Boomerang V shape. It moved very quickly and smoothly, I observed the object for about five seconds while it silently and quickly headed in a Westerly direction. It appeared to accelerate and kept accelerating as I was watching it, over a period of about five seconds from the time I first saw it. I could definitely see the underside at this point in time, which was covered in about 20 revolving white lights, which were brighter in the middle. A Virginia witness at Centreville reported watching a low flying, chevron-shaped UFO that moved silently overhead under 700 feet, according to testimony in Case 74930 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database. The witness was outside in a hot tub with his wife and adult son looking up at the night sky on a clear and moonless night about 9:30 p.m. on February 28, 2016.

“We like to look up at the stars and keep an eye out for passing satellites or the occasional shooting star,” the witness stated.“We live in Northern Virginia, so with all the light pollution, that’s a challenge.”

The witness then noticed something unusual in the sky.

“As I was looking up I spotted a V-shaped formation of round lights coming straight in our direction from the south. I pointed it out immediately to my son and wife who saw it clearly as well.”

The witness described the object.

“It had a row of four to five round, orange/copper colored lights on each side of the V with a light at the point. Judging only from its lights – we could not see any structural definition – it appeared to be about the same size as a McDonnell Douglas DC-9.”

The object was flying rather close to the ground.

“It flew by approximately 500-700 feet up from the ground, about the same height of approaching aircraft to the airport. The object flew due north right overhead of us. We live close to Dulles International Airport so we frequently see and hear (very noisy) approaching and departing aircraft in the area.”

But something stood out with this object.

“There were no aircraft in the immediate area during our sighting of the craft. If flew over steady, fast and silently. Not a sound! The whole event took less than eight seconds, but left us speechless! We could not explain it away as an aircraft, flock of geese, or anything from our experience.” [...]

A Costa Rica witness at Cartago reported watching and photographing a saucer-shaped UFO near the Irazú Volcano National Park, according to testimony in Case 74756 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database. The witness was outside in the park area with a girlfriend in good weather with sunlight and no clouds when the incident occurred at 11:06 a.m. on February 24, 2016. “This volcano is 3,400 meters of altitude above sea level (11,260 feet) close to the biosphere, so we were above the clouds,” the witness stated.“Like when you fly on an airplane, the sky was really clear so at 11 a.m. on that altitude part of the sky was light black.”

“The clouds looked like a white sea, but I noticed close to one of the mountains some clouds with different forms, so I started to take pictures there.”

The witness then finished the tour and began to head home.

The quick-thinking Fifer managed to take a snap of the aerial object before it disappeared “in the beat of a heart”.

The 65-year-old from Dysart is convinced he saw an extraterrestrial aircraft at rural Rossie Ochil, to the south of Perth.

“It’s definitely a spacecraft of some sort,” he told The Courier. “I don’t know whether I frightened it or not with the flash of the camera, because in the beat of a heart it was gone.”

A New Jersey witness at Jobstown reported an encounter with a hovering, triangle-shaped UFO sitting just above the tree line near a military base, according to testimony in Case 74437 from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.
