Preparing for an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) has not been on the radar for many of us lately.  As we focus on our financial prepping for the next inevitable economic downturn, it is often easy to forget that a few other threats still loom.

Because of that, I’ve put together this fairly simple guide to help you prepare for an EMP. This event or weapon creates a short burst of electromagnetic energy that can disrupt or even destroy electronic devices and systems. It can also potentially destroy the electrical power grid. An EMP can occur naturally, such as the pulse from a massive solar flare, but EMPs are also created by technological devices, typically nuclear weapons.

No Electricity? No Problem!

The first step is to make sure you can use your food without electricity. You’ll want a handheld can opener, a manual spice/coffee grinder, a solar oven, and a way to get water when the power is out. Getting water without electricity could take some creativity if you are on city water. If you have your own well, it’s a lot easier, however.

Bartering

If the grid goes down completely and you can’t use your debit or credit card, make sure you’ve got some items to barter with on hand.  Precious metals are the obvious things that come to mind first, but you can also likely trade distilled liquor, ammunition that doesn’t fit your firearms, or personal hygiene items.  You might be surprised what a personal will trade you for toilet paper in a pinch!

Lights

You’ll want to be able to see, you stock up on candles and flashlights and some extra batteries. while candles can be considered “EMP-proof”, they are dim, messy, and vulnerable to the wind. You could invest in a few oil lamps though. One suggestion is the lightweight Dietz Original lamp. This lamp works indoors and outdoors, through wind and rain. And at less than $22, it’ll burn for 11 hours. Don’t forget to grab some lamp oil too if this is the way you’d like to light up your space.

Self-Defense

Others may not be as prepared for an EMP (or any grid failure for that matter) so you should understand that it’s possible that you’ll have to defend yourself and your supplies. The obvious answer is to get a gun you’re comfortable using, but for those who are not certain they’d like to use a firearm, there are other options.  The important thing to remember is that humans can become violent very quickly when they get hungry or feel like their survival is in question.

Those are a few simple ways to prepare for an EMP.  In the event that vehicles no longer work and people cannot get food from the grocery store with their credit cards, civilization could quickly erode.  Prepare by understanding what this country would look like when people are unable to use the electricity they have become dependent on and you’ll get an idea of what else you’ll need to survive and thrive if the unthinkable ever happens.

A lot of us have been watching Mt. Popocatepetl for a very long time. Could it be possible that we are now on the verge of the most destructive volcanic eruption in the modern history of North America? On Monday night at precisely 9:38 PM, a massive explosion at Mt. Popocatepetl sent a column of volcanic ash nearly a mile into the sky. A “yellow alert warning” has been issued by the authorities, and they are ordering everyone to stay at least 12 kilometers away from the crater. They are stressing that the threat has not passed, and as you will see below, an evacuation plan is in place in case an even larger eruption follows. And if a much larger eruption does follow, the devastation could be off the charts. Mexico City is only 43 miles away from Mt. Popocatepetl, and approximately 25 million people live within a 60 mile radius of the crater.

The explosion on Monday night was definitely a wake up call. According to media reports, it was “loud enough to shake doors and windows of houses in the city of Puebla”…

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano erupted late on Monday, hurling incandescent rock about 1.5 miles down its slopes and sending ash into the night sky near the nation’s capital.

The explosion, one of the volcano’s largest eruptions in years, was heard from nearby communities and was loud enough to shake doors and windows of houses in the city of Puebla, according to local media.

Mt. Popocatepetl has been increasingly active in recent months, and authorities are concerned that all of this activity could be leading up to something really big.

In fact, it is being reported that they are “currently preparing for the worst case scenarios”…

Local authorities are currently preparing for the worst case scenarios and haven’t ruled out more eruptions in the near future.

In preparations, they have drafted a special operational plan allowing for quick evacuation of locals in case of any future emergencies.

Popocatepetl exploded earlier this week but had remained calm over the past several days as it only emitted water vapour, gas and a small amount of ash.

So what would a “worst case scenario” for Mt. Popocatepetl look like?

Well, scientists tell us that the volcano is capable of producing a “catastrophic Plinian eruption”…

Popocatépetl is considered the most threatening volcano in North America, in terms of explosive activity and population threat. Its current low- or moderate-scale eruptive behavior can switch relatively quickly to a large, catastrophic Plinian eruption, the largest and most violent of all the types of volcanic eruptions, according to the volcanologists at the National History Museum.

If you have never heard of a “Plinian eruption” before, here is Wikipedia’s definition…

Plinian eruptions or Vesuvian eruptions are volcanic eruptions marked by their similarity to the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, which destroyed the ancient Roman cities of Herculaneum and Pompeii. The eruption was described in a letter written by Pliny the Younger, after the death of his uncle Pliny the Elder.

Plinian/Vesuvian eruptions are marked by columns of volcanic debris and hot gases ejected high into the stratosphere, the second layer of Earth’s atmosphere. The key characteristics are ejection of large amount of pumice and very powerful continuous gas-driven eruptions. According to the Volcanic Explosivity Index, Plinian eruptions have a VEI of 4, 5 or 6, sub-Plinian 3 or 4, and ultra-Plinian 6, 7 or 8.

Short eruptions can end in less than a day, but longer events can take several days or even months. The longer eruptions begin with production of clouds of volcanic ash, sometimes with pyroclastic surges. The amount of magma erupted can be so large that it depletes the magma chamber below, causing the top of the volcano to collapse, resulting in a caldera.

We are talking about a disaster that could potentially kill millions.

In the Aztec language, Popocatepetl literally means “smoking mountain”, but to most of the locals the volcano is simply known as “Don Goyo”. In ancient times, it produced giant tsunamis of super heated mud that completely buried entire Aztec cities. The following is an excerpt from one of my previous articles…

Historians tell us that Popocatepetl had a dramatic impact on the ancient Aztecs. Giant mud flows produced by massive eruptions covered entire Aztec cities. In fact, some of these mud flows were so large that they buried entire pyramids in super-heated mud.

But we haven’t witnessed anything like that in any of our lifetimes, so it is hard to even imagine devastation of that magnitude.

In addition to Mexico City’s mammoth population, there are millions of others that live in the surrounding region. Overall, there are about 25 million people that live in the immediate vicinity of Popocatepetl. Thankfully, we haven’t seen a major eruption of the volcano in modern times, but at some point that will change.

Considering what this volcano is capable of doing, I simply don’t understand why there was so little coverage of this massive explosion on Monday by the mainstream media in the United States.

We live at a time when our planet is becoming increasingly unstable, and many believe that the shaking is only going to get worse.

Mt. Popocatepetl had been dormant for a very long time before it started becoming active again in the 1990s.

Now it has apparently entered an extremely active phase, and we know that it is capable of producing a catastrophic Plinian eruption.

So let’s keep a very close eye on Mt. Popocatepetl, because a Plinian eruption so close to Mexico City would be a disaster far worse than anything that any of us have ever seen.

Sunday, April 22nd was not only Earth Day, it also marks the 2nd anniversary of the unprecedented Macondo Prospect oil gusher into the Gulf of Mexico (GOM) which began the BP Gulf Oil Spill – a triggered geological anomaly separate from the Deepwater Horizon disaster on 20 April 2010.

The Gulf Rescue Alliance (GRA) has published “Deepwater Unknowns -Two Years After“ in observance of this day unearthing new details about this oil spill event. This extraordinarily revealing account is set against ”a backdrop of recently published scientific studies indicating sick and dying dolphins, coral and other sea life, and bacteria-laden tar balls washing onto beaches.”

Advocacy groups of concerned citizens have demanded that the government operate with more transparency in the GOM.

For instance, it was reported by GRA in “Digging Under the Macondo Tombstones” that “a petition to demand an independent ROV survey of the seabed floor” has been circulated to compel the US Federal Government to fulfill its statutory responsibilities to the residents of the GOM coastline.

Barbara Wiseman, President of The Earth Organization recounted that “At the beginning of the disaster, TEO investigated to find effective, non-toxic technologies currently available in adequate supply to clean up an oil spill of this size. The barriers have all come down to specific people in the EPA.  They are, in effect, holding the Gulf hostage and, for some unexplained reason, won’t let it be cleaned up.”

The toxic dispersants add absolutely nothing to effective response.  There is no scientific basis for it, and their use violates The Clean Water Act, EPA’s charter and common sense.  All stakeholders continue doing the same thing over and over again, with the exact same negative outcome—although the EPA calls the toxins in dispersants ‘reasonable tradeoffs’. Corexit and dispersants like it, have a horrible track record,” said Steven Pedigo, CEO OSEI Corporation.

The Gulf Rescue Alliance has likewise posted important questions and presented previously unknown facts about the true state of the Macondo well, which have yet to make it into the mainstream media after almost two years.  Their report to Congress on February 24, 2012 is both revelatory and alarming.

Conclusive Evidence That BP Misrepresented Gulf Oil Spill Sent To Congress and now Deepwater Unknowns ought to be studied by officials throughout the concerned state governments, as well as by all the coastal counties and beachfront communities rimming the GOM coastline.

There are at least eight disasters that may soon change life as we know it, and seven of them are already underway. Most of these could cause an early death for millions.

Unfortunately, far too many people are unaware of how serious the situation is. They have the “normalcy bias,” the faulty assumption that normal will continue because it seems to have done so in the past. In actuality, “normal” has been changing throughout the entire life of each of us.

Sophisticated economic, political and social manipulation, the increased damage capabilities of war, widespread pollution and technologies from nukes to nanobots to death ray frequencies that raise the possibility for the end of all life on Earth. It all has made life very fragile and challenging in this era of humanity.

Beyond that, we must understand that there are elitist powers that control the finances, resources and technologies, and run the world’s institutions, that want the vast majority of us to be dead and gone. They think they don’t need us anymore. So they are not trying to prevent these disasters; they are causing or facilitating them.

There is little time to awaken as many people as possible to reality, so they can first protect themselves and their loved ones as much as possible, then work to prevent the worsening of these disasters that could yet unfold, and reverse the aspects in progress.

1 – The Economic Disaster

The international banksters intended from the start of the United States of America to control the finances. It took them about a century to get their agents strategically planted. By fostering the Civil War and manipulating key officials in the aftermath, they got a strong foothold in Washington, D.C. that culminated in the implementation of the Federal Reserve as a privately controlled central bank in 1913.

By allowing the bankers to freely issue our currency then lend it to the government at interest, as well as to businesses and individuals, coupled with the debasement of the dollar by divorcing it from gold and silver backing during the 20th Century, the “fiat” dollar has been reduced in value by 98% in 100 years.

The nation is so deep in debt that we are essentially owned by China, Japan and primarily the international banksters, headquartered in the City of London, Wall Street/D.C., The Vatican and Switzerland.

The mortgage fraud, the shaky derivatives market and the lessening status of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency and “petrodollar”, have the financial markets, big banks and even governments on the verge of collapse. If nothing worse, excessive inflation in the U.S. is likely to ramp up very soon.

Warnings are being issued by a number of honest financial experts to minimize exposure in dollar-related assets, such as bank accounts, insurance, annuities, bonds and stocks. There could be a “haircut” tax in the U.S. on assets, as already done in some parts of Europe. In addition, pension funds of all types are vulnerable, including 401(k)s. Most recommend durable assets such as precious metals or land, or asset-backed foreign currencies.

The Great Recession of the last five years could become what trends researcher and forecaster, Gerald Celente, calls “the Greatest Depression”. Economic disaster is a major tool for the roll out of The New World Order Empire.

2 – The Food Disaster

The health of a population is tied to the quality of their food and the richness of their agricultural soil. The Standard American Diet (SAD) has worsened even as understanding of natural health and nutrition has grown over the last century.

Giant agribusiness and food product manufacturers control most of the food supply, with motives of high profit and poor health. The corporate interests guide the consumer to the medical establishment and early death with deteriorating health.

The introduction of heavy reliance on chemical farming methods after World War II, has caused further erosion of the mineral values of our soils and thus the quality of our crops. Weaker plants are more susceptible, so there has been increased use of toxic herbicides and pesticides, and more recently Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), all of which are unhealthy for consumption by people and animals.

Further, the expansion of fast food and junk food as a share of the dietary intake, with all the chemical additives for flavor, color and preservation, has the public consuming a lot of chemicals with not enough good nutrients. The bogus replacement of natural nutritional elements with synthetic lab substitutes is also not good for health.

Meanwhile through techniques of weather control, extremes of drought and flooding, and through manipulation by officials around the world, food supplies are little available to many. Starvation and severe malnourishment diseases, combined with chemicals are being used in the Third World as a faster method of population reduction, than the more subtle method of shortening life with just poor nutrition and chemical toxins that has been employed by the power controllers in modern techno-industrial societies. They now seem to be getting ready to try increasing the death levels with a combination of disasters, including an expanded food availability crisis.

3 – The Health Disaster

The SAD diet in conjunction with purposeful public poisons, including all the chemicals in foods, the chlorine and fluoride in water and the routine spraying of chemicals in the air as part of atmospheric aerosol geoengineering (“chemtrails”), all this has undermined good health for many people. Degenerative diseases that few should have if educated, are very common.

The solutions offered by the pharmaceutically controlled medical establishment have made health much worse. From vaccinations to daily drugs, the health of most of the population has been compromised by this industry.

As a result, people’s immune strength is weakened and far too many are susceptible to whatever pandemic might make the rounds. There are severe viruses and bacteria that have been developed as bio-weapons, and some of these may be used as another tool of massive population eradication by pandemic.

4 – The Mental Disaster

Ignorance, distraction, mass hypnosis, misinformation and staged events such as war, were the primary mind control tools of the powers that be until technologies made it so much easier for them.

Several of the widespread chemical poisons, including fluoride, aluminum, mercury and psychotropic medicines, facilitate reduced intelligence, mass apathy and mind control.

Movies, radio and television have allowed the controllers to reach the masses with powerful manipulative messages, both apparent and hidden. Television itself is a means of hypnotic entrainment.

The educational system was taken over long ago. Public schools were set up for training compliant corporate workers. Only the basics of a few subjects are offered, with much disinformation. Simultaneously, the institutions of higher learning were reorganized influenced by outside funding to center research and emphases around global corporate interests.

After years of development stemming from Nikola Tesla’s insights, Nazi experiments and further secret research programs, psychotronic frequencies are now employed to manipulate minds. RFID chips, cell phone towers, HAARP, nanobots, ELF waves, psychotronic weapons, “silent sound”, “voice to skull”, etc., these terms are the vocabulary of not only today’s surveillance technologies, but also of controlling thoughts, feelings and behavior with electromagnetic methods.

5 – The Social Disaster

Another of the “Secret Weapons For Quiet Wars” planned by the power elite has been the deterioration of the cities in Western societies. Trapping much of the poor and less educated in urban centers, then removing the job base to foreign lands, has created a vast dependency on government programs.

Distraction of the masses with fashion, celebrities, sports, personal technologies, mind warping games, drugs, crime, police actions, etc., keep people from paying much attention to the larger picture.

Big news false flag events are used to justify gradually increasing security measures, which many accept as necessary. Those who recognize and point out the hidden protocols such as Agenda 21 and other steps toward an emerging restrictive social system under global control, are marginalized.

It appears that the illegitimate fraudsters running the show have prepared the agencies they run for imposition of martial law, as the resistance they have fostered among those who are awakening has grown. Being restricted to your residence with limited if any travel, and possibly rationed food and water, would be very different from the accustomed lifestyle. Even worse would be everyone being transported to barracks at a camp.

6 – The Nuclear Disaster

The Fukushima nuclear catastrophe is the worst one yet. Radioactivity continues to spill into the ocean and travel around the globe through the air. The Northern Hemisphere is being increasingly contaminated, especially the north Pacific and the west coast of North America.

Over 1,300 used fuel rods are stored at Fukushima in a facility that is breaking down. Shortly, they plan to start moving these rods one at a time. If one rod drops, breaks or touches another, a nuclear fire or explosion could be generated that could start a chain reaction through all of these rods, even possibly effecting the rest of the reported 11,000 total rods located at this multiple reactor site.

If the Fukushima disaster is multiplied, life in the Northern Hemisphere may not be possible any longer. There are leaking nuclear plants in the U.S., too. These aging facilities are also vulnerable to natural disaster or to various types of attack.

We all know that nuclear weapons are in the hands of those who would like to harm the United States. A disaster could come by missiles from without, set explosions from within, or by cyber-attack.

We are already being radiated from Fukushima. An additional nuclear event could make that much worse. It is wise to learn to protect yourself by building up the iodine in the thyroid gland and the quality of calcium in the bones, while also detoxifying and strengthening the immune system.

7 – The Earth Changes Disaster

You may not know that the levels of earthquakes, volcanic activities, sinkholes and fire balls are raising concerns among many observers. Some these have caused serious disruption of lives, but there has not been much news coverage since the earthquake and tsunami destroyed much of northern Japan in 2011.

A major volcanic eruption could affect most of the world with ash dust emissions. Protecting one’s respiratory system would be essential. It is possible for a global dust cloud to cause a year or more of winter, interrupting crop production and forcing starvation for many.

Many other natural disasters, including storms, high winds, tornadoes, floods, drought, wild fires, extreme temperatures, deep snow and ice have damaged crops and homes and caused people great difficulties.

The Earth’s poles have been moving in recent years. Some think that we are near a major polar shift. Several prognosticators warn of major geographic changes.

At the same time, the sun’s activity has been abnormal. This is supposed to be a solar maximum period, but the sun has been less active than expected, yet once in a while it generates a massive coronal mass ejection (CME). If one of these comes right at Earth, we could have a major problem.

Meanwhile, Comet Ison approaches, which may have significant electromagnetic effects on the sun and/or Earth as it travels near over the next couple of months and goes around the sun in January. Some are concerned about meteors falling from a debris field trailing the Comet, as Earth moves through its path in January.

Whatever the cause, a powerful geophysical event could suddenly make life very different on this planet.

8 – The Power Outage Disaster

A solar coronal mass ejection is one way an Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) could be generated that affects the power grid and communications on Earth. A nuclear explosion high in the atmosphere, or the use of a high tech weapon that can generate an EMP, are other ways the power could be shut down. It is known that enemies of the U.S. have developed such capabilities.

It is expected that an EMP would fry the power grid’s transformers as well as communications satellites. The power grid is so interconnected that an EMP could wipe out power for much or all of the continent. Another threat to this vulnerable system is a cyber-attack.

For some reason, legislation passed in the U.S. House of Representatives to strengthen our power grid was shelved in the Senate. Several government officials have warned that it is just a matter of time before a power shutdown occurs. Multiple agencies and companies across North America are planning a drill around a major power outage scenario for November 13-14.

When the power is out, your lights and heating system are not the only things that will not be working; there will be no water or fuel being pumped, refrigerators and freezers will not work, ATMs will be off, and stores and restaurants will probably be closed. It is anticipated that the digital devices in modern vehicles might be wiped out by an EMP, such that cars would stop running. In a few days, society would be in serious disturbance.

A recent television movie and website depiction of a just a 10-day power outage scenario by National Geographic suggests how problematic this would be.

Some are saying that the TV and website programs about this, together with the power outage drill and the warnings by public officials are “predictive programming” for a power down situation known to be coming.

Preparation Is Needed

There is little time left to prepare as well as possible. A power outage is the only one of these eight disasters that is not already in progress, but the possibility of is very real. I have suggested that people form a support community with nearby family, friends and neighbors. It is important to take immediate action to plan for provisions, security and survival, gather supplies and build any shelters deemed appropriate.

Despite corporate propaganda asserting that hydraulic fracturing (fracking) can actually be good for the environment, the iconic image in the movie Gasland where a man lights his tap water on fire can’t be unseen.

Or one might consider what Pennsylvania cattle farmer Ken Jaffe of Slope Farms documented around his well-tended property. Fracking began in his region in 2005 and is now littered with more than 1,500 wells. He and his fellow farmers in these fracked areas have begun to see curious things:

…the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture quarantined 28 cattle belonging to Don and Carol Johnson, who farm about 175 miles southwest of Jaffe. The animals had come into wastewater that leaked from a nearby well that showed concentrations of chlorine, barium, magnesium, potassium, and radioactive strontium. In Louisiana, 16 cows that drank fluid from a fracked well began bellowing, foaming and bleeding at the mouth, then dropped dead. Homeowners near fracked sites complain about a host of frightening consequences, from poisoned wells to sickened pets to debilitating illnesses. (Source)

It might be a result of the 596 chemicals used in the fracking process. Or maybe it’s just a coincidence. A coincidence like earthquake swarms breaking out … also in fracked regions.

There has been an ongoing battle between researchers and the natural gas and oil industries over whether or not fracking is definitively leading to an increase in earthquake activity.

The evidence is there to strongly suggest a causal link. In Arkansas, for example, nearly 1,000 earthquakes have rattled the area in recent years. Previous to the beginning of this outbreak in 2010, Arkansas had a total of 38 quakes in 2009. Yet two cities, Greenbrier and Guy had a swarm of 30 small earthquakes in a four-day period in early 2011, which paralleled fracking activity in the same area.

This uptick has been echoed next-door in Oklahoma, where during roughly the same period, the state saw an increase in earthquakes from 50 per year to over 1,000 in 2010. The accumulating present-day data is also mirrored by earlier government research, which you can read about here, as well as a study from Oklahoma Geological Survey which drew some very solid conclusions despite using the word “possibility.” Read it for yourself to see if this would qualify for being beyond a reasonable doubt:

Earthquakes rattled residents in Oklahoma on Saturday, the latest in a series that have put the state on track for record quake activity this year, which some seismologists say may be tied to oil and gas exploration. 

One earthquake recorded at 3.8 magnitude by the U.S. Geological Survey rocked houses in several communities around central Oklahoma at 7:42 a.m. local time. Another about two hours earlier in the same part of the state, north of Oklahoma City, was recorded at 2.9 magnitude, USGS said. 

Those two were preceded by two more, at 2.6 magnitude, and 2.5 magnitude, that also rolled the landscape in central Oklahoma early Saturday morning. A 3.0 magnitude tremor struck late Friday night in that area as well, following a 3.4 magnitude hit Friday afternoon. 

Austin Holland, a seismologist with the Oklahoma Geological Survey who tracks earthquake activity for the USGS, said the earthquake activity in the state is soaring. 

“We have had almost as many magnitude 3 and greater already in 2014 than we did for all of 2013,” Holland said. 

Last year’s number of “felt” earthquakes – those strong enough to rattle items on a shelf – hit a record 222 in the state. This year, less than four months into the year, the state has recorded 253 such tremors, according to state seismic data. 

“We have already crushed last year’s record for number of earthquakes,” Holland said. (emphasis added)

And, curiously, the following connection is again offered:

Oil and gas exploration has increased in recent years across the country, spurred by U.S. efforts for energy independence. Modern hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is one particularly controversial technique. 

For bigger quakes, so far this year the state has recorded 106 at 3.0 magnitude and above, according to Holland. For all of last year the state had 109 at 3.0 and above.

So we have not only an increase in activity, but an increase in average strength, just as was concluded in the GSA report as a possible consequence of fracking. 

Fracking is becoming a clear threat on multiple fronts. It is becoming imperative that people become as informed as possible and begin raising this issue with local governments, as communities are not only suffering the consequences of contaminated water and food, but now we see 6 states where earthquakes have become a permanent part of a previously tranquil landscape. If the history of oil and gas exploration is any indication, a voluntary rollback from Big Energy is highly doubtful.

There has been an ongoing battle between researchers and the natural gas and oil industries over whether or not hydraulic fracturing (fracking) is definitively leading to an increase in earthquake activity.

In a recent article entitled “Oklahoma Breaking Records For Earthquake Activity – Fracking?” I presented evidence from the U.S. Army, U.S. Geological Survey, the Oklahoma Geological Survey and the Geological Society of America, which suggests that it is becoming conclusive that fracking causes earthquakes. Furthermore, studies also indicate that even when fracking is halted, earthquake activity can continue and earthquake magnitude can increase over time.

Ohio is already on the map as one of the 6 states where earthquakes are a new feature of reality. According to a new report, Ohio geologists are the latest to express concern over why earthquake activity is on the rise in regions where fracking has been taking place.

As even the Associated Press is now having to report:

Geologists in Ohio have for the first time linked earthquakes in a geologic formation deep under the Appalachians to hydraulic fracturing, leading the state to issue new permit conditions Friday in certain areas that are among the nation’s strictest. 

A state investigation of five small tremors last month in the Youngstown area, in the Appalachian foothills, found the injection of sand and water that accompanies hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, in the Utica Shale may have increased pressure on a small, unknown fault, said State Oil & Gas Chief Rick Simmers. He called the link “probable.” 

While earlier studies had linked earthquakes in the same region to deep-injection wells used for disposal of fracking wastewater, this marks the first time tremors in the region have been tied directly to fracking, Simmers said. The five seismic events in March couldn’t be easily felt by people.

The A.P. goes on, however, to offer a hedge to this troubling information:

The oil and gas drilling boom targets widely different rock formations around the nation, so the Ohio findings may not have much relevance to other areas other than perhaps influencing public perception of fracking’s safety. The types of quakes connected to the industry are generally small and not easily felt, but the idea of human activity causing the earth to shake often doesn’t sit well.

But for the region encompassing Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, where energy companies have drilled thousands of unconventional gas wells in recent years, it’s a first. 

[…] 

Glenda Besana-Ostman, a former seismologist with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, confirmed the finding is the first in the area to suggest a connection between the quakes and fracking. A deep-injection wastewater well in the same region of Ohio was found to be the likely cause of a series of quakes in 2012.

The “relevance” when one considers similar confirmations anywhere thorough studies are conducted goes beyond merely “influencing public perception” about safety. Furthermore, passing off these quakes as “generally small and not easily felt” should not diminish the concern that these quakes will become more frequent and larger over time as the Geological Society of America has concluded.

Nevertheless, it appears that tentative action is being taken in Ohio:

Ohio has also imposed an indefinite drilling moratorium at the site of the March quakes. The state is allowing oil and gas extraction to continue at five existing wells at the site. 

Such events linked to fracking are “extremely rare,” said Shawn Bennett, a spokesman for the industry group Energy In Depth, who described the new rules as safeguards that will prevent similar future quakes in Ohio.

The link between fracking and earthquakes is becoming too strong to ignore, or to shrug off as “extremely rare” when the scientific studies keeping mounting.

In addition to the threat of earthquake activity, the negative environmental and health effects of poisoned water and food is spurring people to take action. The first fracking trial has opened in Dallas which pits Texans Bob and Lisa Parr of Wise County against Aruba Petroleum

for property and personal damages which the couple claims they have suffered as a result of Aruba’s fracking operations. The Parr property was surrounded by natural gas frackers in 2009. The Parrs charge that frackers have so polluted their air and water as to destroy their right to peacefully enjoy their home and property and properly care for their pets and livestock, some of whom have died as a result of the fracking pollution, according to the complaint against Plano, Texas-based Aruba Petroleum. These are conditions which echo those reported in Pennsylvania and Louisiana:

…the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture quarantined 28 cattle belonging to Don and Carol Johnson, who farm about 175 miles southwest of (nearby Slope Farm’s owner Ken) Jaffe. The animals had come into wastewater that leaked from a nearby well that showed concentrations of chlorine, barium, magnesium, potassium, and radioactive strontium. In Louisiana, 16 cows that drank fluid from a fracked well began bellowing, foaming and bleeding at the mouth, then dropped dead. Homeowners near fracked sites complain about a host of frightening consequences, from poisoned wells to sickened pets to debilitating illnesses. (Source)

What is a fallacy? A fallacy is basically a false idea that acts as an obstacle, which prevents someone from understanding a particular topic. Fallacies are quite often used in arguments as deceptive maneuvers to mislead a person who is attempting to determine truth and make sense of a situation.

Within the studies of logic many of these fallacies are identified and given specific names. This way one can more easily spot a misleading idea before it enters their consciousness and becomes a part of their worldview.

I’m sure it will come as no surprise to you, but the political world is consumed with fallacies. Most of the information that you will find in the mainstream media, in public schools and in government speeches is riddled with deception, lies and fallacies.

As an organization comprised of human beings that claims ownership over other human beings the government itself is one giant fallacy. This specific fallacy that the government is founded on is called “Ad Verecundiam”, the fallacy of authority. This was recently explored in great detail on gnostic media’s interview series with Larken Rose.

To sustain an organization that is rooted in lies and uses violence in its every interaction, it is necessary for them to employ fallacies on a constant basis to justify the destructive and irrational nature of their actions. One of the most frequently used fallacies in regards to economics, especially in times of war is “the broken window fallacy”.

“The broken window fallacy” is used to debunk the popular but false argument that the destruction of property stimulates economic growth by creating messes that people will eventually be paid to clean up. This is one of the arguments that we typically hear to defend war. People say that war is good for the economy because it creates jobs. However, the fatal flaw in this logic is that it fails to consider that a better outcome could have been possible, had war resources been used for creation instead of destruction.

The broken window fallacy was coined by French economist Frederic Bastiat in the 19th century in his essay “That which is seen, and that which is not seen”. He used a parable about a broken window to describe the situation that we are talking about here. In his story the witnesses of the destruction assume that the broken window is good for the economy because they are only thinking about the profit of the window maker, but overlooking the potential loss incurred by unseen third parties, primarily the owner of the window and the businesses he would have invested in otherwise. War is the most obvious example of this fallacy, but it can also be seen in the recent financial bailouts or even the very process of taxation to begin with.

In the case of the bailouts, our broken window is the untold trillions that were transferred from the general public to various quasi-state corporations just after the massive financial crash of 2008. At this point no one can be sure of exactly how much money was transferred through these bailouts, but the official figure continues to climb as more independent research and investigation is carried out.

At first the government promised it would only be 700 billion dollars. Then in 2010 when the fed was forced to reveal details of their “back door bailouts”, the public discovered that the number was actually 12.3 Trillion dollars. Some other independent research even suggests that the number is much more than that, but either way 12.3 Trillion would almost be enough to cover the national debt, which passed 15 Trillion late last year. Just something to think about.

The mainstream media will have us believe that these bailouts were necessary to save jobs and prop up the US economy, but when we take a closer look we can identify this as an obvious use of “the broken window fallacy”. There has been a lot of propaganda employing this deception since the bailouts happened, but recently there has been a new surge in misinformation as a result of election time politricks.

At the beginning of this month Obama pushed this idea at an auto show in Washington commending the apparent “success” of the bailout that the automotive industry received. Again, this “official” explanation is completely overlooking the fact that our situation could be a lot better right now had that money actually been used by its rightful owners.

Digging deeper into the broken window kind of mentality, we can see some very serious philosophical consequences that come as a result of finding joy in destruction. This kind of thinking makes ethics completely irrelevant, because it allows people to rationalize actions that truly should have never been tolerated to begin with.

April 20 marked the two year anniversary of BP’s Gulf of Mexico disaster. Until Fukushima Daiichi’s catastrophic nuclear meltdown, it was the largest ever environmental calamity.

It has devastated the lives of millions of area residents. It contaminated America’s Gulf. Nothing in it is safe to eat.

The incident has been plagued by coverup, denial, and Obama administration complicity to assure nothing slows hazardous deep water drilling.

In 2010, as disastrous conditions unfolded, Dahr Jamail reported firsthand from the Gulf. He’s now discussing the aftermath. On April 18, he headlined, “Gulf seafood deformities alarm scientists,” saying:

Eyeless shrimp and fish with lesions are becoming common, with BP oil pollution believed to be the likely cause.

He quoted Louisiana State University’s Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences Dr. Jim Cowan saying:

And in my 20 years working on red snapper, looking at somewhere between 20 and 30,000 fish, I’ve never seen anything like this either.

He’s not alone. Gulf fishermen, seafood processors, and other scientists report “disturbing numbers of mutated shrimp, crab and fish that they believe are deformed by chemicals released during BP’s 2010 oil disaster.”

Along with collapsing fisheries, signs of malignant impact on the regional ecosystem are ominous: horribly mutated shrimp, fish with oozing sores, underdeveloped blue crabs lacking claws, eyeless crabs and shrimp – and interviewees’ fingers point towards BP’s oil pollution disaster as being the cause.

Jamail also cited concerns about continued Macondo well leakage. Overhead flights show large oil sheen covered areas. Evidence confirms it’s from Macondo. What began two years ago didn’t end. “Experts believe” seabed seepage is responsible.

Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN) data confirm highly toxic BP oil still contaminates the Gulf. Affected residents experience it harmful effects.

Seepage is common wherever offshore drilling occurs. According to University of California’s Ira Leifer, “From what I’ve seen, this new oil and sheen definitely seemed larger than typical natural (Gulf) seepages….”

BP, of course, denies it is from Macondo. Throughout 2010, the company misreported repeatedly. Initially it said 1,000 barrels a day were leaking, then 5,000, then larger volumes still well below actual amounts. Estimates ranged up to 100,000 or more daily barrels.

For months, company officials grossly downplayed the severity of the crisis. Coverup and denial continues. Contaminated areas are vast. America’s Gulf may never fully recover. Neither will millions of area residents.

On April 20, the Institute for Southern Studies (ISS) headlined, “Troubled Waters: Gulf communities still reeling two years into BP disaster,” saying:

BP claims recovery’s on the way. Hard evidence proves otherwise. A new ISS report’s titled, “Troubled Waters: Two Years After the BP Oil Disaster, a Struggling Gulf Coast Calls for National Leadership for Recovery,” saying:

Area residents report oil still washing up on Gulf shores. Without help, affected people and communities face challenges likely too great to overcome.

Gulfport, MS community leader Derrick Evans addressed BP’s April 2012 shareholders meeting. “The oil is not gone,” he said. “The general perception is that BP made a mess and BP did a big cleanup and everything is all fine. Nothing could be further from the truth.”

Two years later, the reality facing Gulf residents is sobering and disturbing. Their struggle to overcome what BP wrought continues. Economic hardships persist. So do serious health problems.

Some communities lost their way of life entirely. Others face uncertain futures. Many residents are sick and depressed. They’ve gotten precious little help. ISS produced its report cooperatively with Bridge the Gulf Project and the Gulf Coast Fund. They focused on three areas in particularly hard hit communities:

(1) Making a living

Thousands of fishing boats were idled. Many over-indebted fishermen shut down entirely. Local groups try helping best they can. They need federal and BP help not forthcoming.

(2) Restoring the coast

Every hour, Louisiana “loses a football-field sized chunk of coast land” from erosion and “energy industry activity.” Residents need federal help restoring their fragile coastline.

(3) Protecting public health

Residents report alarming numbers and types of illnesses. Clearly they’re toxic oil and dispersants related. Organizations like the Louisiana Environmental Action Network try to help. It’s not enough. Much more is needed.

Overall, recovery is an unfulfilled dream. Achieving it’s barely begun. BP turns a blind eye. Washington largely does the same. The suffering of millions persists.

The Government Accountability Project (GAP) “promote(s) government accountability….protect(s) whistleblowers, advanc(es) free speech, and empower(s) citizen activists.”

Since 1977, it’s been “the nation’s leading whistleblower protection and advocacy organization.” It’s also on the BP story. It’s been investigating it since last summer. Whistleblowers report disastrous health tragedies.

Sometime this summer, GAP will release its report on how bad. Numerous ailments are known. Many thousands experience everything from skin irritation, vomiting, and rectal bleeding to kidney, liver, central nervous system and brain damage, hypertension, miscarriages, birth defects, and lesions.

Expect an eventual epidemic of cancers and other serious diseases. Expect pathetically little federal or BP help. The oil giant’s settlement provides no healthcare. Accepting it means foregoing the right to sue.

Pursuing legal redress means years of delays, obstruction, appeals, and other ways clever lawyers use to deny just compensation.

BP’s legacy will linger for decades. Peoples’ lives were irreparably harmed. Environmental contamination is severe. Crude oil alone harms human health. Corexit dispersants contain hazardous carcinogens like 2-BTE (2-butoxyethanol).

Dangers they pose depend on length and amount of exposure. Children, pregnant women, the elderly and infirm are most vulnerable. No one’s immune. Drinking toxic water or eating contaminated seafood assures any number of current and future health problems.

Blame it on America’s rage to drill, and irresponsible oil giants like BP. They do it recklessly with no regard for worker safety, environmental protection, or human health.

The company’s known for having the industry’s worst safety and environmental record. It’s responsible for numerous willful negligence incidents. Some cause deaths and injuries. All harm human health and are environmentally destructive.

Only profits matter, not social responsibility or legal obligations. BP’s a serial scofflaw. Regulatory laxity and political Washington complicity let it pollute freely with impunity. Once a violator, always one, and it goes way beyond BP. America’s a scofflaw’s paradise.

On April 19, investigative journalist Greg Palast headlined, “BP Covered Up Blow-out Two Years Prior to Deadly Deepwater Horizon Spill,” saying:

Eco-Watch.org “located an eyewitness with devastating new information” about BP covering up a Caspian Sea blowout. Rig workers back the account.

At issue was cutting corners irresponsibly. Coverup let BP replicate its shortcut in America’s Gulf. In September 2008, BP’s first blowout occurred off Baku, Azerbaijan’s coast.

Witnesses told Palast they were evacuated from BP’s platform as it filled with dangerous methane. They confirmed:

‘(T)here was mud (drill-pipe cement) blown out all over the platform.’ The cement cap couldn’t hold high-pressure gases. They ‘engulfed the entire platform in methane gas.

Palast learned that “BP failed to notify the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC) about the failure of the cement….Notification would have alerted Gulf cement contractor Halliburton that the process of adding nitrogen to cement posed unforeseen dangers.”

Cement casing cracked apart in the Caspian. BP promoted “Blow-Out Preventers (BOPs) as a last line of defense in case of a blow-out. But if the casing shatters, the BOPs could be useless.”

BP went to “extraordinary lengths” to conceal the first incident. Revealing would show replicating it in the Gulf was “not an unexpected accident but could be considered negligent homicide.”

BP buys politicians. It also intimidates employees. An atmosphere of fear prevails. Speaking out ends careers. Few dare.

EcoWatch editor, Stefanie Penn Spear, said BP negligence caused the “biggest oil spill in US history. It entirely turned the Gulf Coast economy upside down and threatened—and continues to threaten—the health and livelihoods of the people in the Gulf region.”

How can something this major be concealed, asked Palast. He cites “pay-offs, threats, political muscle and the connivance of the Bush Administration’s State Department, Exxon and Chevron.”

Obama officials bear equal guilt.

New York Times contributor Abrahm Lustgarten’s op-ed calls BP’s Gulf disaster “A Stain That Won’t Wash Away,” saying:

Accountability’s been entirely lacking. Future incidents are assured. Minor fines at most are imposed. Criminal prosecutions don’t happen. Warnings issued are toothless.

Scofflaws are free to pollute and harm human health. One disaster follows another. Only profits matter. Recidivism is commonplace. A culture of irresponsibility assures it. So doesn’t bipartisan political complicity.

What the gulf spill has taught us is that no matter how bad the disaster (and the environmental impact), the potential consequences have never been large enough to dissuade BP (or giants in all industries) from placing profits ahead of prudence.

As long as Washington remains corporate occupied territory, nothing ahead will change. Big money runs America. What it says goes. Politicians and regulators salute and obey. It’s the American way.
