The huge mass – at least a mile wide – approached from the North West. I could land on it with my 727. We began to eliminate possibilities. What ever it was seemed to be following the Tonto One arrival, the standard jet arrival routing for instrument traffic into PHX on an approximate heading of 120°. I estimated its altitude to be 10,000 feet. No C-130’s, it wasn’t a formation of jets – too slow for either of them. Helicopters? Not that either – no “wop-wop,” no sound. None. Cessna’s wired with weird lights? Its happened, but that wasn’t the case on March 13th.

After a few minutes of observation we concluded that this was one object. There was zero movement between its massive forward-facing amber lights. I should have counted the lights, should have run for a camera and called my friend Bob Mohan, a local talk radio guy. The craft had intercepted Scottsdale Road, and made a right turn to approximately 180º following it south. It was headed right for Mo’s house.

The Air Force Alerted its nation-wide radar network today to watch for a "brilliant mystery object" that has been reported flying in a crazy pattern over, Texas, New Mexico and the Gulf of Mexico in the last two days.

Air Force officials said the latest sightings have been placed in an unexplained category pending investigation ....

A statement issued by the Air Force said: "The air defense command radar net is keeping watch ... trained personnel are investigating reports on scene." The alert coincided with the release of an official dispatch to U.S. Coast Guard headquarters reporting that the cutter "Sebado" had contacted the strange object several times by radar over the middle of the Gulf of Mexico.

Sightings of a blazing oval shaped object that landed on highways and then took off at tremendous speeds straight up early this moring have been reported to sheriff's offices here by at least five witnesses from different points near Levelland.

MADRID (UPI) – The Spanish air force said yesterday an "unidentified flying object" eluded one of its supersonic jet fighter-bombers as a rash of flying saucer reports spread from Latin America to Europe. The sighting of a bright object in the night sky over Madrid caused a monumental traffic jam and sent the U.S. built F104 jet scrambling to find out what it was.

Eyewitness Report To The US Air Force 12-9-1965

Dec 9th, 1965

Gentlemen,

I have just returned from a convention in Miami beach, via Tampa on Air Canada Flight.

Since I just sighted this "thing" over your country I suppose you are the people I should report to.

At approx 4:45 p.m. and at about 10 minutes flying time south of the city of Pittsburgh when we were at 18,000 ft. I was looking out the window toward the east when I saw "it."

A sort of pencil shaped object flying horizontal for a second then going into a 70° dive with an orange flame then appearing behind it. In a matter of just 3 or 4 seconds it was gone. Just like a rocket taking off but this was in reverse – going down.

Apparently I was the only one on board who saw it. However when I asked the stewardess to speak to the captain she told me that he had seen the same thing and was reporting it on the radio.

I was not drinking and have flown quite a bit as a passenger and am a former R.C.A.F. pilot from the last war. I have never seen anything like this before, especially the rapid changes in direction and terrific speed.

I hope that this information may be of some use.
