A 57-year-old man was arrested Thursday morning after running onto the tarmac and attempting to force his way on a flight at Melbourne Airport, in southern Australia.

The man, who has not been identified, was reportedly hours late to catch his Jetstar Airways flight to Adelaide, and became angry at the airline employees who informed him of his tardiness, 9News reported.

Witnesses say he then smoked a cigarette inside the airport — an act which is forbidden — before pushing over a computer, assaulting the Jetstar staff, and then making a break for the gate before running out to the tarmac and trying to board the first plane he saw.

"We were sitting waiting to get on the flight and people went 'Oh my God, what is going on?'" said a witness for 9News, who identified herself as Susannah.

Outside, he continued to fight with staff who attempted to keep him off a mobile staircase leading to an aircraft that had just deplaned and was next scheduled to fly to Sydney.

"This man was trying to get up the stairs, he was physically fighting with the staff, punching and scratching them,” said Susannah.

The unruly traveler somehow made it past the crew and up to outside the aircraft, where he proceeded to yank on the handle, placing his foot against the plane to get more leverage.

Crew members arrived to hold off the man until the Australian Federal Police arrived and placed him under arrest. He was charged with one count of unlawful assault on an airline employee, according to 9News. He could also face further charges following an investigation.

It is unclear how many crew members were assaulted, though it is believed that three were treated for injuries. The Sydney-bound plane was delayed for close to two hours while officials inspected the plane and obtained replacements for the injured crew members.

Jetstar has since banned the unruly flyer from traveling with them, as did Qantas, which owns the budget airline.

"This behavior is unacceptable and we have placed an immediate ban on this passenger travelling on all Jetstar and Qantas flights,” said a representative for the airline.

The man is reportedly due in court June 12.

Extreme weather at Virginia’s Washington Dulles International Airport forced passengers to take shelter underground on Monday.

Fairfax County, Virginia – where the airport is on the border – issued a tornado warning as severe storms push through the state. The tornado warning expired later Monday.

The airport released a statement on Twitter warning passengers to “stay away from windows and listen to safety instructions provided by airport operations and gate agents.”

Officials later said that the runways reopened and airport operations were resuming, but that the wicked weather could trigger more flight delays.

The airport also apparently moved fliers underground to the train tunnel out of an abundance of caution.

“Tornado warning at Dulles airport. All passengers sent underground to the train tunnel,” American Enterprise Institute president Arthur Brooks tweeted.

An Asiana Airlines’ Airbus A330 crashed into a smaller passenger plane that was parked on the runway at Turkey’s Istanbul Ataturk Airport on Sunday, cutting off its tail.

In a video of the incident, the Airbus is seen taxing across the tarmac when its wing crashes into the tail of a parked Turkish Airlines A321 jet.

The Korea Times reported that the Asiana plane was taxiing on the runway before colliding with the A321, which resulted in a fire on the Turkish jet that forced fire crews to rush to the scene. The Asiana plane’s wingtip was also seriously damaged in the crash, the news site reported.

The Korean carrier was preparing to take off for Incheon, South Korea, before the accident forced the airliner to cancel the flight.

That flight was rescheduled for Monday and the passengers were reportedly offered hotel accommodations.

The outlet confirmed none of the 222 passengers on board were injured.

Turkish authorities are reportedly investigating the incident.

"If the ministry finds the collision is Asiana's fault, the airline will face an administrative measure," an official for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in Turkey said to The Korea Times.

Turkish Airlines did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that one suspect is in custody following a bomb scare at Daytona Beach International Airport that forced the evacuation of more than 200 passengers on Friday morning.

Sheriff Mike Chitwood said the man, identified as John Greenwood, entered the airport at around 6 a.m. clothed and with a bag. He entered a ladies bathroom that was still under construction, left the bag behind a hole in some sheetrock, and exited the restroom without any clothes.

The suspect then attempted to escape onto the tarmac via a baggage carousel, where he was Tasered and apprehended.

At that point, Chitwood said the naked suspect yelled, "We gotta get out of here, I planted a bomb in the bathroom." Airport officials confirmed that the suspect had indeed stuffed something into the wall, and contacted the police and bomb squads.

A bomb unit confirmed the bag was not dangerous and performed a secondary sweep before allowing travelers to reenter the airport. They had been evacuated earlier to the short-term parking area.

Nathan Blum, a traveler who tweeted about the incident, also claimed the suspect had been "running around the airport" before he was "tackled and tased" by security.

Officials said no one was hurt during the incident.

Chitwood revealed Greenwood was "well known" to local police and had been arrested a number of times previously. The sheriff further stated that Greenwood was taken to a hospital.

Chitwood added that the suspect would likely be facing a "slew of charges," including federal charges.

"This is all federal, what he did here," Chitwood said, adding that he believed the FBI would be investigating.

A spokesman for the airport confirmed that passengers were admitted back into the airport an hour and a half after they were evacuated. The airport was said to be re-accommodating travelers throughout the ordeal.

A Virginia woman was arrested at Richmond International Airport after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded hot pink handgun in her carry-on luggage.

TSA alerted airport police, who responded and arrested the woman, WTOP reported.

The hot pink 9 mm gun was confiscated, along with eight pink-tipped bullets that were loaded at the time. One was reportedly in the chamber.

TSA officials reminded passengers on Twitter that, despite a gun being “colorful,” it still is “not allowed past the TSA checkpoint.”

According to the Washington Post, this is the fourth time a weapon has been confiscated at a security checkpoint at the Richmond airport this year.

The Swiss man, who is of Thai descent, wrote the Thai nickname “duang” – equivalent to sweetheart – on her boarding pass, between the woman’s first and last names, Swiss news site Tages Anzeiger reported.

The loving middle name, however, caused some problems with the airline staff upon arrival and the woman was informed she could not check in because the name on her ticket did not match the one on her passport.

The situation quickly got worse for the group who were then told the woman’s name could not be changed on such short notice and she would have to buy a new ticket for a flight the following day.

Originally the two people traveling with the woman decided to go on with their scheduled flight and then meet her in Japan the next day. However, delays at the check-in counter caused the two other travelers to miss their flight and forced them to each rebook their trips to Asia, the Swiss site reported.

The traveling snafu proved to be too much for the woman, who fainted at the check-in counter.

Ambulance staff came to her aid and she quickly recovered without injury, The Local reported.

Boarding passes must match the names on a passport or identification card exactly in order board a flight, experts point out.

A broken water main in the parking lot of the Philadelphia International Airport left the airport’s terminals without water pressure on Monday evening — and left passengers with no way to flush toilets and only a “small dribble” of water dripping from faucets.

The airport (PHL) confirmed later that night that pressure to the terminals’ bathrooms had been restored, but not before passengers began tweeted about the less-than-sanitary conditions.

“There’s literally blood, urine and feces in all of the toilets in each of the terminals,” one passenger alleged following news of the ordeal. “Where else can we go to use the restroom?”

Chris O’Connell, a reporter with Fox 29 Philadelphia, further tweeted that travelers were complaining of “horrible conditions” as well as “feces all over the stall.”

The PHL’s official Twitter account first reported news of the water main breakage just before 5 p.m., informing passengers of “no water pressure throughout the airport terminals” and apologizing for the inconvenience.

The airport continued to update its followers, sharing news of the Philadelphia Water Department’s efforts to fix the problem. They also informed passengers that hand sanitizers would be distributed to the restrooms until sinks were working, but some still had questions.

“Where should people go to use the bathroom?”asked one.

“How are food service employees washing their hands?” another wondered.

The airport later tweeted that only bottled beverages and foods would be available in the wake of the incident, as “cooking operations are suspended.”

The airport confirmed that pressure was eventually restored to terminals just after 7:30 p.m.

Subsequent reports tied the problem to a broken water main beneath the airport’s economy parking lot, which partially submerged cars and created a sinkhole in the parking area. The parking authority towed away around two dozen vehicles, Philly.com reported.

The Water Department had said it was planning to work all night and into Tuesday to repair the damage.

Ten crocodiles were loaded into each of the five boxes, the BBC reported. However, the boxes were only supposed to hold four of the foot-long crocodiles.

The overcrowded boxes caused the crocodiles to fight during the approximately 14-hour flight. One of the reptiles died because of the conditions.

A Border Force spokesman said “little attention” had been paid to the crocodiles’ welfare, BBC reported.

The animals were heading to a farm in Cambridgeshire, where they were to be bred for meat, the news site reported, but were confiscated by officials from the Conventions on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).

Grant Miller, head of the national Border Force CITES team at Heathrow, said to BBC, "It is just not acceptable for reptiles to be transported in this way."

The 49 crocodiles will be re-homed.

As if air travel isn’t stressful enough as it is, passengers arriving via Terminal B at New York City’s LaGuardia Airport should now prepare themselves to be ogled by a robot.

As part of a new security program that’s said to be “in the testing phase,” airport officials have placed an autonomous surveillance robot outside Terminal B, but the ‘bot — officially called the Knightscope K5 — isn’t winning any fans among passengers or even its human security counterparts, The New York Post reports.

“It’s upsetting to have that thing creep up on you,” one female security guard revealed to the Post. “It’s a pain in the a--. It keeps bothering people.”

The same security guard theorized that her male co-workers at LaGuardia were remotely manipulating the robot so they could “get a better look” at her — though officials in charge of the building of Terminal B say this wouldn't be possiible.

"The bot cannot be hijacked; there is no mechanism for allowing a human to control it [that way]," a representative for LaGuardia Gateway Partners tells Fox News, adding that the robot works via "geofencing," or sensing objects or persons nearby, and then readjusting its course autonomously.

“Whatever if being alleged is not possible," added LaGuardia Gateway Partners in response to accusations of human-manipulation.

Regardless, the Post reported that “several” travelers felt the robot was ogling them, too, with one saying the robot came less than a foot away from her knees.

“It was coming right up to me, and at first, I was like, ‘What the freak is that?’

Passengers on social media have also commented on the robot’s odd actions, with one newscaster likening it to an “84-year-old man emerging from the restroom trying to remember where his gate is,” and movie critic Matthew Zoller Seitz capturing its “creepy noise” on film.

LaGuardia debuted its Knightscope K5 earlier this year. The robot’s capabilities include video surveillance and live broadcasting of said video, in order to report news of accidents or safety concerns.

“They just laugh at it,” one security guard told the Post, adding that he found the robot to be a “waste of money.”
