Unidentified Flying Objects seen over the United States for the past 18 years may be visitors from outer space here on reconnaissance missions, an eminent University of Arizona physicist said yesterday.

Brig Gen Homer G. Goebel, Lt Col Thomas E. Marking, Capt Edward A. Skroch and MSgt Everett E. Brust arrived at the scene of the reported sighting. At the point where the observer said the object landed, three (3) impressions were found in a summerfallowed field. The impressions were ball-shaped, 10" in diameter and 7" inches deep, in the form of a isosceles triangle, 26'X21'6"X21'6".

Randy said, he saw a thing that looked like two bowls joined face-to-face come almost straight down and land in the field. It stayed there about a minute, then rose at a sharp angle and was out of site "within a few seconds."

The Westall UFO Incident occurred in a suburb of Melbourne in 1966 and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. It’s one of the best documented and corroborated UFO cases in Australia with over 200 witnesses including school children and teachers. This segment aired on the Studio Ten TV show hosted by Channel 10 on Australian TV on the 21st January 2016 and included an interview with three of the witnesses and UFO investigator Shane Ryan.

There are some very important elements to this case that point to a dramatic event that was covered up. eg The craft described by witnesses landed for a few minutes, then took off at great speed. The object was metallic and silver in colour and round in shape, with lights around the perimeter. The military arrived within 30 minutes and were heavy handed in silencing the children and this caused trauma to some which they still recall vividly. Tania, a Yugoslavian girl ran up to the craft and then screamed hysterically. She was then taken away in an ambulance NEVER TO BE SEEN AGAIN at the school. She and her parents were moved out of the town that day. A friend of hers went to visit her the next day and was told by the new owner of the home that no-one by that name had lived there. Ford is not satisfied with the Air Force explanation of the recent sightings in Michigan and describes the "swamp gas" version given by astrophysicist J. Allen Hynek as "flippant."

Fifty years ago, soon-to-be president and then-representative Gerald R. Ford changed the conversation about UFOs in a very permanent way. In 1966, a growing number of reported sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects were coming out of Michigan. Naturally, people were concerned. Being the representative of the state’s 5th District, Ford shared their concern and called upon congress to conduct a “congressional inquiry” into the matter.

And he wasn’t shy about taking on the problem. UFOs were getting a lot of media attention and Ford didn’t shy away from a spotlight. He issued a pre-hearing press release making the case for government transparency and calling out a prominent astronomer.

Ford proposed that either the Science and Astronautics Committee or the Armed Services Committee of the House schedule UFO hearings and “invite testimony from both the executive branch of the government and some of the persons who claim to have seen UFO’s.” Politically speaking, he was all in. [...]       At around 2am on 24 April 1966, seven Centurion tanks were on a firing range, firing shells at stationary targets on a hill, illuminated by flares. While the tanks were firing, suddenly a UAP rose from "dead ground" about 700 yards away. The tanks stopped firing. The object rose up to 60-70 feet above the ground. It then hung in the air, wobbling slightly on its axis. It was dome shaped, and looked like it was made out of bluish metal. There were 23 witnesses in all. The object appeared damaged, as one side looked to be "bashed in" around the rim. There was also a reported "patch of oil" or some other fluid visible on the side which was damaged.

The object moved towards the tanks, then stopped at a range of about 150 yards. A diaphragm opened on the near side of the object, looking like the iris of a camera.

At this point, one of the tank gunners, turned his gun towards the object. The diaphragm snapped shut, and the object then moved off to the left flank of the tanks.

At its closest approach, the object's size was estimated as 45-50 feet across, and its speed equal to that of an Army Cessna observation aircraft.

Finally, the object sped away to the west, at high speed and was lost to view.

The next day, someone went to view the location from which the object had risen. It was reported that a 10 foot diameter depression was found in the ground. Also found, were traces of oil - engine oil - possibly from one of the tanks.

I saw and photographed a UFO – an unidentified flying object – in North Brentwood late Saturday night.

At the same time I was visually and photographically tracking the UFO, the Air Force and The Press were both receiving calls about the same sighting and other sightings in Smithtown and Centerport.

It all started in the early evening of that Tuesday night. It was about 6:30 p.m., and the winter sun was already long gone over the western horizon, past the great Wanaque Reservoir, and behind the darkened Ramapo mountain range.

Wanaque Patrolman Joseph Cisco was in his cruiser when a call from the Pompton Lakes dispatcher came over his police radio. It was a report of a “glowing light, possibly a fire.” Then as if right out of a sci-fi movie Cisco heard the words: “People in Oakland, Ringwood, Paterson, Totowa, and Butler claim there’s a flying saucer over the Wanaque.”

“I pulled into the sandpit, an open area to get my bearings,” Cisco recalls. “There was a light that looked bigger than any of the stars, about the size of a softball or volleyball. It was a pulsating, white, stationary light changing to red. It stayed in the air; there was no noise. I was trying to figure out what it was.”

Wanaque Mayor Harry T. Wolfe, Councilmen Warren Hagstrom and Arthur Barton, and the mayor’s 14-year-old son Billy were on their way to oversee the burning of the borough’s Christmas trees, when they heard the reports that something “very white, very bright, and much bigger than a star” was hovering over the Wanaque Reservoir.
